Day at Silverstone

Sometimes even the Zed has to be put aside for something different. Armed with Pitlane passes to Silverstone GP circuit I had an awesome day out watching the Lotus challenge, GT cup and VdeV races (Ligier, Pilbeam, etc).

There is something special about having free access to the pit lanes, pit wall and garages while this type of racing takes place. 2 rounds of Lotus, 2 of GT Cup and a 3 hour endurance race, especially when surounded by the works truck and teams of Ferrari, McLaren, Porshe and others :)

Nice. After my first road course performance school I got to appreciate what 10/10ths is all about. Someday I would like to have bragged I got close to that figure. This type of driving requires not just a load of spare cash but a load of work by the drivers. Hats off to them (and their support crew as well.)

The Lotus guys were doing 120mph at that point before braking so I estimate them at the 160 to 180. They are oh so fast because they take the fast corners as if they do not exist. Amazing from 2 litre Honda Type R engines, albeit highly developed in 550kg race shells.

I think we will see more of VdeV racing as it's expanded from France to the UK. http://www.eurors.com/vdev/

GT Cup is pretty exciting too. Watching the big road cars do battle and listening to the roar of the Marcus vs the scream of the Ferrari flying past.
 
Nice pics looks like a great day out i managed to sneak into pit lane at the FIA GT meet earlier in the year and like you say so much better that close to the action.
