Hi,

Driving this morning and got stuck in the traffic on the M25. It was raining quite heavly and then all of a sudden the yellow exclamation mark symbol and the traction control symbol come on and stay on.

I eventually pulled over and checked the tyre pressure and everything was okay.. Any ideas people? See picture below:

Any help would be great :D

Is it expensive to replace and how do I know which side the sensor has failed on? Back left or back right? I'm guessing there isnt a sensor on the front wheels??

took mine to the dealer, £200 (approx) later... there are other threads...

be very surprised if there wasn't sensor's on ALL four wheels as they also form part of the DSC system.

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=13800 I found this thread which shows the brake sensor and ABS sensor. As I am about to replace the brake sensors and pads this is quite a good timing then... :o

Does anyone know if I need one per wheel?

This could be the same problem that many Series 1 owners, including me, have suffered. Pressure Sensor fails in hydraulic pump and DTC doesn't work. BMW now can supply a repair kit costing around £180 plus fitting. This should have been a BMW recall!

I had same lights come on, also in traffic on M25! Except my journey was driving car home having just bought it! Dealer very reasonably paid for my local BMW place to replace both rear sensors which was billed at £350ish all in.

I can't believe that this fault is going to cost over £1000 to fix :(

This was costing anything up to £2000 for a complete new hydraulic pump. However a repair kit plus fitting by an Indy will be £250-300. Book time to fit 1.5 hours plus a few quid for brake fluid top up. VAG cars using this Bosch manufactured pump are also experiencing this problem.

Before you go down the route of bringing it to a dealer, wait a while to see if it sorts itself out. I had this issue to, the lights would come on and clear themselves again for about a month (I only drive the car once a week), usually when it was wet. They have not come on again now for over a month, so I suspect it was just water/dirt interfering with one of the sensors. So don't jump into thinking it's a big problem yet.

Once I got to work this morning, the car was still wet so I'll see if the error is still there when I drive home this evening..

mine was intermittent.

no problems since replacement.

ABS/DSC is likely inactive once a fault has been found...

can't remember to be honest - the dealer replaced the ones they found to be faulty.

Ill have a look for the invoice in my online backup, otherwise I'll look tonight.

edit: you're in luck...

Calling fault memory in diagnosing system for ABS/DSC warning light coming on, found faults stored for pressure sensor. Worked through test module, checked connections between sensors and control unit & all ok, checked pressure readings of sensors & both ABS pressure sensors are faulty

Remove and replace both pressure sensors for ABS/DSC III

B34.52.1.164.458 036052/DSC SENSOR 2@ 84.50....

Do you think it could be battery related as I did read somewhere that if there isnt enough power going to the ECU on start up then the car will think there is a fault with the car and throw up an error symbol?

I have noticed randomly that the dashboard backlights dim for a split second and then go back to normal?

Gannet - thanks for looking that up for me. So does than mean that there are sensors just on the rear wheels? left and right?

Cheers, is that one of these http://www.worldcarparts.co.uk/tabid/144/CategoryID/127/ProductID/2181/Default.aspx?utm_medium=google_shopping&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=google_shopping
