Dear all,

Last week a display popped up on my dash. It was an orange engine symbol.
On looking through the owners manual it said
"Your exhaust emmissions have changed. Please take to a dealer as soon as possible".
I freaked out and did just that.

Unfortunately the mechanic at BMW said that he needed to change the oil and the filters to rule out those as possible issues. Then he could diagnose the problem and recalibrate the system.
So the bill grew
£55 to inspect initially, £200 for oil and filter change, £55 for another diagnosis machine, another £55 for another diagnosis machine and a final recallibration of the Vanos ? system.
It cost £465 in all.
I was amazed and yet gutted at this expense.

Anyone else had this ?

thats strange,, i had that on my previous z and bought it brand new... they replaced the manifold under warranty never mentioned changing oil or filters :headbang:

ruddy stealers :headbang:

Your symptoms usually mean an O2 sensor has gone, sounds like you went to a real stealer

Mine did that, I bought a OBD Scanner from Amazon for £25 - got the code - looked at the forum and identified a split hose behind the MAF. Ordered one from a stealers for £12 and replaced it. Having an OBD scanner is worth it's weight in gold!
