Dashboard / Key Fob Problem

Has anyone experienced difficulty on occasion getting the key-fob to disengage from the dashboard when turning the car off?

I have had it happen a few times now, is this a sign of an impending fault or am I doing something wrong?

Cheers

Describe the sequence of events when you turn on the car and turn off the car and we'll tell you with pleasure if you're doing something wrong or if its unusual.

I've heard of this happening at times, have you checked the cars battery is upto charge, otherwise it could be the interlocking sensor is on its way out which probably means a new unit that takes the keyfob. If it does get stuck don't be tempted to force it out as you can easily break the teeth that hold the fob.

For example today:

Parked the car, foot on foot-brake, into neutral, engaged electronic handbrake, foot off brake, turned my lights off with the car just sitting at idle, go to turn the car off and the fob would not disengage from the dashboard.

For want of a better solution I had to deliberately stall the car to get the fob out :(

It has happened approx 4 times in the 3 years I have owned the car and I was not greatly bothered, however as it has happened again today and with warranty running out I thought I would see what folks thought.

Hang on, that sounds like you're trying to stop the car by pulling out the key? You had to stall it to get the key out? You pressed the engine start/stop button to stop the engine first right? That will then release the key. Engine has to be stopped and ignition off to get the key out.

Engine stop / start button would not turn the engine off - push button in....nothing happened. Engine stilled running.

It is weird I must confess, perhaps I did not depress the start / stop button enough, thought there was a problem, then tried to disengage the fob from the dashboard.

It is probably me being an idiot now that I am typing all this down :D

Correct sequence:

1) Foot-brake then:
2) Electronic handbrake
3) Push button stop / start - engine off
4) Disengage fob from dashboard

Beginning to wonder what I tried to do earlier!

Thanks for all the responses thus far.

If the start/stop button doesn't stop the engine, then yes the key will remain in. You can't remove it (well you can, with force, to over ride the key lock) with the engine running. If indeed the start/stop button won't stop the engine, that's a safety issue and you should get the car back into the dealer asap.
