Dashboard cameras - cheap alternatives?

With the great weather we've been enjoying and the Skye run coming up soon, I've been considering getting a dash-mounter camcorder. After browsing the internet and Amazon I've come across a wide variety ranging from the ridiculously cheap to the insanely expensive. Ideally I would like one of the GoPro Motorsport kits, but can't really justify paying £300 for what is essentially a novelty item.

I've come across the Veho range of cameras which seem to get fairly decent reviews. In particular this one. I was wondering if anyone had had any experience using anything similar to this? I was planning on either attaching it to the windscreen or to the back of the rearview mirror.

I've got one of the mini dv cameras set for Skye it just sticks onto my screen or I can cable tie it onto my grill. Cracking camera for 15 quid

is 2Meg pixels good enough quality, it doesn't sound a lot these days
For video 2 megapixel is HD resolution (1920x1080 = 2,073,600).

For photography you can go as high as you want (almost) :P

JimmyPop, I think A11y has something similar and posted some demo footage. If you click through the YouTube link on my signature it takes you to my channel for sample footage, there's one on there that shows the mounting. I've got the Kodak Playsport - HD, nice thing is it's shock and waterproof so has lots of use elsewhere. In fact, I think TGS tested ruggedised gadgets and it was the only one left standing!

Taz x, you're right, but video resolution doesn't need to be as high as for stills. I'm sure the one above is a good bet at the price and the difference in quality wouldn't be demonstrably worse as most of this stuff ends up on YouTube anyway.

check out the link to my signature- this includes footage of my bulletcam on my bike.

this link is the cam I have

Cheers for the advice guys. I quite like the look of the one you have Pawn, but ultimately I think I might give the Veho Atom a shot.

Ah, missed this post til now...

Filmed with the Muvi Micro DV camcorder, OK but not great TBH:

I've been thinking about an upgrade as the battery in my Muvi is kuput, but the next step up is bloody expensive. And as you allude to JimmyPop, at the end of the day it's a toy lol.

Plenty of other filming on my youtube channel but mostly bikes, search for allygmitchell :)
