Dash lights out, then on?

On the way to work today I look down as I'm driving, all of a sudden the milage/computer info part of the cluster goes extremely dim, almost looked all the way off, then came back up as nothing happened at all. Nothing on the way home...anyone have that happen before? It's as if the cluster took a long blink at me.

From what I could tell the speedo/tach cluster lights were on, it was an overcast but glarry day all the same so I was running the lights anyway and some glare was on the cluster.

I've had the same problem. Whilst it was user warranty I took it to BMW and they couldn't find anything wrong with it so I didn't bother as it has happened a few times in nearly 3 years. However now I'm having issues with my front indicator being on permenantly whilst my side light is switched on.

Common issue, nothing to worry about. Used to happen on my E46's as well.

Have you changed your headlights, because facelift lights on a pre-facelift car causes the same fault. You have to swap pins over in headlight wiring connector plug to work.

Sidelight bulb out?

Mine has done the dash dim thing before. Tuning the lights on and off seems to give it a slap round the head and sorts it. As for the indicator - agree with the above, that's normally a sidelight out.

Same has happened to me, several times in four years. when it first happened thought it might have been the battery on the way out,

i've had similar - just thought it was something to do with the auto-headlights. Strange gremlin

The stereo does it too. Just out the corner of your eye.
Thought it was my (ahem) vari-focals but no, it's definitely there.
I learned to ignore it as it's been there the 18 months I've had my Zed...
