Dash cam hardwire kit

Need some advice on a hardwire kit for a dashcam. Been reading to many articles and now have brain freeze. Been reading about interference with dab and navigation system. I have the magnet clips which you place on the wires which I used on my daily drive but don’t really want to do that on the zed. Is anybody out there in the zed world who could advice which to buy and where from. When it comes to the zed it has to be right. It’s my baby :D thanks in advance

I can offer this. Recently tried the Garmin Mini dash cam on my Zed and X5. It didn't interfere with either iDrive system. I am disappointed in the quality of their 1080p video... next time I will look for something better.

I recently fitted a Viofo A119 V3 dash cam together with their HK3 hardwire kit. No issues with interference or anything. Very happy with the quality of the video from the Viofo.

Bought a peztio dash cam off amazon seems really good at the moment using the cig lighter but want to hardwire in so I can use the park section. don’t know which kit to buy with no interference

Just looked at this kit. Which fuses did you connect to.

See the photo below. For the Ignition Live I connected it to the 20A fuse circled in orange and for the permanent live I used a fuse under the slider arm, see the orange arrow in the photo (in the photo you can't see the fuse since they under that slider arm). It's number fifty something and it was for the alarm according to the fuse map. For the permanent live you can also use one of the fuses in the white box I marked on the right but I didn't since I couldn't fit the fuse tap the right way round due the black housing to the right of the fuses blocking the way.

Nextbase 522GW with rear view module and fitting kit fitted by halfords, no problems.

How good is this? I was looking at it today. Is it small enough and tucked out the way and how good is the rear one given the small field of vision. Do you have a windbreaker and does it record through this?

The main camera is very good and well featured. Mine is right next to my rear view mirror and is not really in my field of vision. It gets hot during use but then high def cameras do. You MUST buy the nextbase memory card, they are expensive but the architecture is altered to allow it to constantly record over and over. Standard SD cards don't like that, I discovered this trying to save a few pounds.
Rear view is ok, I do have a wind deflector and its view through this is also fine.
I would go for the 622 now its the same price i paid for mine and get halfords to fit it.
Connect it to a permanent live (halfords do it for a few quid and do a good job), this will ensure your parking mode is always on guard as the battery in the cameras is not that big.

Does it have to be the Nextbase card? I would have a thought a high endurance card like this one from Transcend would do the job equally well since it's designed specifically for dash cams and for recording over and over again:

Thanks for that. The guy said the fitted price, £209 iirc, included everything, perm live, nextbase card, and all fitting kit. Funnily enough he was recommending the 322 as he said ihho that the 522 wasn’t worth the extra £70. £30 max according to him.

I had a quick look for the 622 there and says it’s not released yet. Might be worth holding off a couple of weeks for either a 622 or decent discount on 522.

I don’t really know much about SD cards but the Nextbase one that comes as part of the Halfords fitting bundle is £20

It does not come with the nextbase card as part of the product but you may well get it as part of the bundle. I don't know anything about the transcend card. All I would say is that if the nextbase card fails they will replace it. I doubt you will get your money back from transcend.
I got the 128mb card, they recommend you reformat the card every month or so and a bigger card is rewritten less and will last longer.

Yes, my thoughts too. Get it all as part of the bundle can either go to Halfords or Nextbase any issues

If you buy Nextbase make sure the first thing you do is check the software update status, they get better in leaps and bounds when they update them.

I've read a little about the fusebox from hell, and I'm planning to dive in this week to hard wire a cam. Before I get stuck half way through the job, can anyone remember the size of the #8 fuse (circled in the photo)? Is it the 11mm mini fuse, just to make sure I get the correct fuse tap.

Thanks

If I remember correctly, yes it's the mini 11mm fuse.

I crawled under the dash yesterday and what did I find? An extra power socket/cig lighter socket. I did look at the fuse box arrangement for a nano second and just decided to use the spare socket feed instead. Simple...

You should check that the power to that socket does not switch off after a set time e.g. 10 mins or 30 mins etc. after switching off the engine and locking the car since otherwise the parking mode on the camera won't work as it needs a constant live. If I remember correctly the power socket under the armrest and or the one by the ashtray does switch off after 30 mins.

It switches off when I switch off the engine, as does the socket under the armrest. Enough for my needs I think. Thanks for the info!
