Dash and centre console trim REPLACED - GUIDE inside

Great write up

I have heard though that the knee pads on the side of the transmission tunnel are the hardest bit to get off - how the hell did you do it so easily (assuming it was easy because you didn't mention it...) :?

Hey Bing!

no they were not difficult at all same difficulty level as most of the others.

Whats hard in them? Just put a plastic bit in and pull, making sure that you dont tear the leather.

Elbow grease and perspiration is the name of the game.

Did mine last year didn't find it to bad to do, the hardest part for me was getting
The radio out :x

Excellent guide, thanks for posting. Looking to do mine once the hard tops comes off for summer.

Maybe this post should be added to the how to section..?

at last! a decent how to!

i took my centre console out last year using an italian guide and a few pictures. it was rather difficult to say the least.

now i can get it all out in 30 minutes 8)

glad you done a how to for the dash trim as that's what i will be removing next. thankyou.

Thanks for this description!
I just wanted to say that it was a lot easier on my 2003 3.0IA Convertible. I didnt need to take out the airvents, not the clove department, not the complex clip on the dash trim and not the little "coin cup" in the back.

This resulted in 1,5 hours of getting the parts out, 1,5 hours in wrapping it in brushed aluminium plastic (not 3M) an 1 hour to get the parts back in to place. Love the result. Just a couple of bubbles, thats it.

only one way to get those out... use something to pry it off which wont damage it...I guess a flat piece of solid plastic which wont damage the leather

Hi How do you get the rear console out? I have un-clipped everything and it seems lose but wont go up? I have a sat nav unit in the little compartment at the back, do you think thats whats causing it not go come out? Any help would be great

Hi
I am a new owner of a Z4M, black & red interior, with low mileage and small things to enhance the condition.
the Aluminiun alloy Centre console is not in good condition
I am struggling to remove this part !!!
I need advices before doing wrong things
The rear coin holder is quiet impossible to remove, is there any screw ?
How to undo the gear knob, unscrew anti clock ?
How to undo the plastic cover around the gear stick ?
The knee pad are clips or not ?
many thnaks in advance,
best regards
Etienne

HOOW do you remove dashboard?? I JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND... I do not understand how you managed to remove the whole dashboard... and all those trims, I juat can not do anything except I managed to loose the infamous trim, but I am afraid to breake the whole thing...

Big thanks to shawna,
Just replaced the dash today, might give the centre console a try tomorrow.

Definitely very helpful guide.

I do wonder if removing the glove box was really necessary, to get to that funny fastener, instead of trying to force it out via the side vent. however removing was fine with glove box removed, took me a while to get the glove box back in, as it got dark at 16:30 or so and couldn't see too much :D

Edit: for those wanting more pics, on my ipad photo bucket was blanking the pictures on page2, pelican parts have also done a decent writeup, albeit in a slightly different order than op: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/BMW_Z4M/163-INTERIOR-Center_Console_Replacement/163-INTERIOR-Center_Console_Replacement.htm
