Dash adhesive fixing of sat-nav disc?

I tried to stick an adhesive-backed plastic disc on the dash for my phone/sat-nav clip and it wouldn't have it. I'm assuming that it is the dash material, although perhaps the adhesive is just rubbish.

Has anyone a successful story of fixing one of these discs to the left of the binnacle, just above and right of the centre air vents on the dash?

Have used Brodit before, but the standard location down left is a bit dangerous for map viewing I've decided! May test out an air vent, but not a fave :-)

my tomtom fastens well to my piano dash via its normal suction thing

I have the chrome interior, so no joy there.

Am curious to know whether the dash is "sticky-proof" or whether the adhesive was just pants

I think it's a big mistake to bond anything to the top of the dash. If you're successful then the dash is likely to be ruined through some sort of marking (fading, solvent damage, etc.) or physical damage during removal.

That aside I can't imagine a sticky pad ever getting a decent grip on the Z4 dash's curved and uneven textured surface

I have a GoPro sticky mount on my dash board just in front of and to the right of the Sat Nav screen. The sticky pad is of good quality (3M) and the mount is curved to reciprocate the shape of the dash. I cleaned the dash with meths before applying it and it's survived a dozen trackdays

Now you're messing with my mind... :D

Nah, just get a screw and put it in the dash that way. Bit like the rep mobiles from the early ninities with their phone kits screwed all over the place :)

I've previously tried one of those 'non-slip' gel bags with the large rubbery base which claimed to be able to handle anything.

Problem was it wouldn't even stay in place itself, never mind with a GPS receive in it's womb!

Like this, but the bottom was a rectangle of sticky flexible gel.

Although I've had my TomTom stuck to my piano dash by the sucker mount since I bought it!

Ok, here's a thought: a piano dash replacement is not an option, but what about some form of adhesive tape that mimics the piano dash, circular perhaps. In principle that would be easier to peel off in the future without damaging the chrome effect.

are sure it will not suck to the aluminium dash, i thought i had read somebody doing this before

Sat nav mats I've had are useless in both Z4 and a Series 1, now use the air vent clip type from Ebay, several different types available and at least they work.

Not a fan of sticking things to the dash. IMO this would be tidier:

Or something like this? Bit better view than the stock Brodit position
