Mods, please tell me if this is not allowed;

I have an old, but fully serviceable, Das6 Pro that I would like to ‘loan for free’ to established forum members.

It’s a great beginner tool, and perhaps a way for Zedders to ‘have a go’ before committing to the expense of a buying into a DA set up.

I can include some 5.25’’ pads, but the first person to borrow it’s would need to buy a replacement backing plate, as the 5’’ plate is missing… the machine isn’t really powerful enough to run bigger than 5.25’’ pads - unless it’s a perfectly flat panel (which rules out the Z4- curves everywhere). Backing plate is circa £10.00 :thumbsup:

I wouldn’t want the machine returned to me, but I would like to see it being used and passed between forum members.

All I’d ask is that who ever wants it first pays the postage or collects from me.

And then updates this thread after a week or so when they’ve finished with it… so it can move on again.

I am, eh, geographically challenged, and so cannot take you up on your offer, but wanted to drop a comment before this gets lost as newer threads/comments populate the feed - this is a great idea.

Kudos for offering this up, just another example of what makes this forum so worthwhile.

Many thanks,

I could probably sell it as a kit with pads for £60-£70+, but I’d rather give something back to the forum and see it being used to rejuvenate more Z4’s :) - Plenty of life left in it yet :thumbsup:

I’ll take a photo of the machine and any pads I can include tomorrow, I do wonder if I’d have been better posting this in the ‘Detailing’ section? I’d have thought there’d be a number of people who fancy ‘having a go’ :D

Blue that's mighty generous of you, I'd happily love to take the polisher off your hands if no one else has made claim to it, I'm currently polishing/sealing my refurbed 224m wheels using a rotary polisher, and will be in the market for a decent battery or cable da polisher in the months ahead. I'll happily pay any postage and packing.

No one has requested it yet, send me a PM with address details and I’ll find a box over the next couple of days and get a postage quote :thumbsup:

Just to update, these are the bits being sent on ‘free loan’ to Special Kay, hopefully thread will get updated once Special Kay has used it and can pass it on…

Great thing to do, interested in this to learn/have a go at the whole machine polishing thing.

Special Kay, me next please.

:hattip:

This has been collected by Royal Mail today, so it’s on its was to its first custodian… @Special Kay, kindly acknowledge receipt and maybe post a couple of ‘before ‘ and ‘after’ pics of a corrected panel :thumbsup:

Give me a shout if you need any guidance, but clearly there’s not enough pads to do a whole Z4 in one go. It’s a different technique for the microfibre and the foam pads, so have a little Google. I didn’t have any old compounds, but I’d suggest something that ‘breaks down’ as you polish to start with.

Hey Blue, Yes indeed, the package was delivered yesterday thank you, I still haven't had a chance to open the box yet, I'm hoping I can get a day next week where I can give it a run on a panel or two :thumbsup:

No rush, you’ll need to source the replacement 5’’ backing plate anyway… have fun :thumbsup:

How do you rate it in comparison to a forced rotation or a rotary? I've only got very limited experience with a bosch rotary, at first I was very nervous using it in case I damaged the paintwork, but low speed and controlled guidance of the pad worked wonders on my old corrado vr6, and on an old z3. I'm hoping this similar in comparison.

Safer than a rotary, possibly cleaner results too… better finishing. Unless you were a pro with the rotary.

For hard paint, the microfibre works wonders, but slower speeds and slower passes. You’ll definitely find it harder work than the rotary, which would be a virtually vibration free experience compared to this. Having said all that, it does cut nicely and very cleanly with practice.

Forced rotation is my ‘go-to’ now. I’ve got a ‘Supa-Beast’, can’t remember the actual model designation and that’s what some of the top advocates of the machine call it. It’s a Flex forced drive DA, and with the right pad/polish combo it’s fantastic with minimal walking and smooth cutting, finishes brilliantly too :thumbsup:

Thought I’d bump this thread in the hope it has seen some use and maybe been passed on by now?

@Special Kay

Hey True, just to update you, I've still got the polisher at my mom's place. Unfortunately life, illness and house renovations have got in the way of any hope of using the polisher anytime soon. I'll happily forward the polisher back to yourself or directly to Mikopop in bonnybridge. Let me know your preference mate :thumbsup:

Doesn’t need to come back to me, if @Mikopop wants it happy for it to be sent straight there :thumbsup:

What a great idea :thumbsup:

Wish this had been in place before I bought mine, great credit to True Blue
