DAS6 Pro Help

Is there anyone skilled in the art of DA polishing that could give a beginner a helping hand for a few beer vouchers? I'm too scared to use the damn thing, and it's not helped by the guy that did my respray telling me not to use it as I will ruin all his good work!

Hi, if its a DA you have then its very difficult to damage the paint-I looked on utube at some tutorials & had a go.
Didn't have much of a clue but ive not damaged my car, got a load of swirls out as well
Have a butchers & have a go, ignore the naysayers :poke:

All his good work ??? The paint was rather swirled straight after his "good work" and it needs a good polish to get rid of that.

I know Z4 paint is hard from the factory, but would it be easier to damage after a respray?

I have a 5" and a 6" backing plate, and 3x6" meguiars discs, polishing, cutting and finishing. I just want to apply some AG SRP to start with. I'm guessing the 6" plate with the polishing disc?

Not really, you use the polishing one with polish and the finishing one with the final protection product.

Did you buy products already? I found the Menzerna the best product on BMW paint - you are welcome to drop buy when on your way back from the south coast and we can have a go using my products.

Yes already bought, on here about a year ago. Might take you up on that, cheers

Thought that's what I said?

I meant that SRP is a very, very light polish and not enough to get your swirls out. It is more a filler product that most of the time is applied by hand to put on a car. I would use a proper "polish" (I have different cutting grades) on the paint with the polish pad, and then use the final product (I use Menzerna FMJ) with the applicator pad on the machine.

If you just use SRP, it will last a month at best hiding the marks.

To be honest I just want to use the SRP up and at the same time get a bit of practice with the machine, not looking for any correction at this stage, just to save a bit of labour

Ok, in that case you can do it in two passes. User the polishing pad with SRP to get the worst off, and then use the finished pad with SRP to get it buffed.

Put a cross of the product on the pad, move the pad over the area you want to cover with the machine off so you are spreading it over the area you want to cover, and not too much as otherwise you are splashing it everywhere ...

I had to use a Maguire's microfiber pad to make any difference to the swirls, the foam pads didn't offer enough bite.
If you had a rotary polisher I would say beware but a DA is pretty idiot proof (even I didn't ruin my car)

I'm in Binfield and only used mine once, but found it very easy once you get over the sound of taking a drill type noise to you paint. I've got the megs microfibre pads. PM me if you want to pop over, I've recently found myself possibly free of employment, so happy to help in the week.

Good luck mate, at least your giving it a shot unlike me  If it works out I'll give you the sale money back to do mine  All the stuff I sold to you was pretty well recommended, I did a fair bit of research before buying so you should be good with that stuff, chaps at detailing world said it's a solid start at any rate :)
I think they said start with the stage 2 Megs polish you have and see how that goes and if it needs more correction then go to the stage 1 stuff as that's got a better cut.
