Best budget DA? Das6 v2 or Pro?

So I had my first ever crack at cutting and polishing a section of the nasty flat paintwork on my boot yesterday.
Borrowed a neighbours no-name DA and compound/polish kit and to say I’m relieved that it’s just a clearcoat issue and not the paint is an understatement!

Don’t worry about that white line towards the rear of the section, its just residual polish, not a clearcoat ridge!
I didnt cut that deep. :?

He lent me it in return for giving him an old bottle of blue turtlewax polish for his daughters new Peugeot sh!tbox left over from a previous car of mine, but then he had the nerve to suggest I can hire the polisher for €100 to do my whole car. Cheeky fekkin chancer!

The nerve of some people! I would have offered something up front but that takes the biscuit in my book! :o
I politely declined his generous offer after ‘testing it out first’ 8)

Reading a few threads it would seem the Das 6 is a decent machine. Is the Pro version really worth the premium over the v2?

Any thoughts/suggestions from our esteemed detailers?

Some pics of the quick 10 min cut and polish section. Difficult to tell in the sunlight but in the flesh its chalk n cheese

Holy s**t your paint must be in really terrible condition if you think that the bit you have polished looks good.
Wait until you get a polisher and take a bit longer on each panel, then you will be really surprised.

Its only the boot and rear flank top surfaces.

It was just a quick test to see if i need to respray or just detail.

Nowhere near completion.

I think you can do a lot with the paint you have, a respray costs a lot of money for a decent job. The Das 6 Pro is a good machine, I'd match it with some microfibre cutting pads and then polishing pads for refining....you'll be surprised at how good you can get it with a few passes on each panel. You will end up spending £200+ though...so depends on whether you'll get value from it on other cars?

Thanks. Well I was quoted Eur300 for a 2 step detail from a couple of places, so cheaper than going to a pro at the very least.
I was surprised at what you can achieve under your own steam, having never touched a DA before!
I've heard only good things about Hex pads and Meguiars 105, 205 etc.
I also found this 3 step Megs kit for 60 sponds

It depends on what level of perfection you want. A pro will definitely get the result you want quicker and leave you to keep it up with maintenance washes, but it’s quite satisfying doing it yourself and learning the whole process.

Keep an eye on spend though...very easy to get carried away buying loss of stuff. I genuinely think I’ve spent over £2k on detailing stuff this past 4 years...a bit silly really 😂
