Darwin. There, someone had to say it.

Whilst I fully acknowledge the various philosophical dilemmas that the C-19 pandemic creates, I do not think your Eugenicist attitude is the correct approach. The opening sentence of your posting states: "I know this post will bring me a lot of stick" so you shouldn't be in the least bit surprised that forum members, including me, should give you the stick that many of us might think you deserve for airing your offensive views on a public forum. If the cap fits.
Is that a Dutch Cap? Sorry, just trying to lighten it a little. :D

Sounds a bit like sour grapes for me to be honest for me negatively commenting on your post in the 'Virus worries' thread and you being offended and becoming a big sulkypants.
If I felt like you suggest, then, believe me, I would've replied to you in that particular thread. I can take a punch.

I have to agree. Some of his responses to those who don’t agree with him have been childish to say the least. I’m not sure what he expected. Presumably he thought everyone would pat him on the back and say what a wonderful fellow he is. Sad really.

Sadly situations of crisis bring out the worst in some people as your post has proved.
Well excuse me for mistaking this for a forum where one would normally assume it was a place to share and discuss one's opinions and ideas.

How do you know what reasons might lie behind someones obesity or addiction? Should we just ignore that and allow no compassion or sympathy?

Darwin may have correctly described the law of the jungle that got us here but how many of would really like to live by it now? How many of us have never been vulnerable or weak or had a family member or friend who was? Letting that survival of the fittest genie out of the bottle would surely lead to a loss of civilisation and the development of a cruel and compassion less society? History is littered with examples of that - lets learn from that.

Isn't a civilised society characterised by how it treats its most vulnerable and weakest in times of need?

If you spend your life judging others I guarantee you will always find a reason to be angry

This sums it up prefect for me. Surely society is partially there to prevent survival of the fittest.

O. P; Is someone who grew up being abused and turned to food/drink/drugs, are they at the back of your queue? If not the back then where? Or a military veteran with MH issues who uses drink/drugs, what did their service to the country earn them versus their addiction cost them in your queue?

I know a few people who've beaten the classic addictions and gone on to have 'productive' lives but then found another addiction, viewed by society as healthy.

One that springs to mind was in his early years SBS, then struggled with alcohol addiction before beating it and becoming a police officer and family man. His longest addiction is Iron Man triathlons. But he freely admitts this addiction has cost him two marriages and other relationships. Where's his spot in your queue?
As an aside, he's certainly extremely fit and I should image a serious contender for survival in any situation!

TBH, not what I come here for. I'm now wondering why I bothered reading this thread.

I recall reading this OP’s previous post on “offensive not defensive parking” back in February and his parking issues with an elderly resident where he lives. Made for an entertaining read at the time but having read this latest post, I can only feel sorry for the poor old chap and his wife now. It must be awful for them!

As someone who works alongside frontline emergency health and social care workers, I can confirm that a significant number would be at the “back of the line” based on the OP’s selection criteria. Yet without them we would ALL be in a far worse place than we are currently. If any of us are unfortunate enough to need urgent medical follow up over the coming months due to CV-19, there’s a good chance it’ll be one of the people the OP would “de-prioritise” who provides some of our essential care.

I wouldn’t ordinarily respond to posts such as this but thought it heartening that the majority of responders on the Forum have stood up for the less fortunate and vulnerable and challenged such offensive views. There’s no place for them here and I’m glad many would seem to agree.

Chris_D You clearly know nothing of the world and hardship.
The generation of people who fought to give you the freedom you so clearly take for granted that saw their families and friends sacrifice everything are now at risk and you make slight of it calling them weak.
I see you as weak as many here do.
There’s no need for your lackadaisical view point and I felt I had to say something, I’d usually hold my tongue, but not in this instance. You should be ashamed but my guess is you don’t care.

So....end of day one...on reflection how do you think your post went Chris....? :surrender: :chophead:
Well, all things considered John, I think it went absolutely swimmingly!
Enormously encouraging to see that I can coax and provoke all you embittered, grumpy and self-righteous old codgers into responding with such varied and vigorous retorts!

Watch out for future posts where I shall be expressing even more popular opinions and ideas....

Ahhh but with age comes wisdom Chris.....something that is yet to enlighten you....

Wow - You guys could show a bit more of the tolerance you are advocating the OP have. You've all gathered round and started throwing stones now.
No better, just louder, than the accused IMHO.

I wish b&q was open I could do with a bag of gravel and some large pebbles .
Some of you old gits may get this :(

Not really, I’m 33. You've just proved me right with this response and shown yourself to be a little, petty man who truly knows nothing and has little going on in his own life. I could go on but I won’t as you’re just not worth the time.
All the best.
