Doesn't matter if it doesn't add power - it's cheap, it looks good and you get a bit of extra induction noise :rofl:
 
The gains are real, I've sent one of these to Iraq and the guy there says it's given him an extra 40bhp. I Can't substantiate his claims but someone else has said the future proof technology used in the production of these utilises something he described as the ''placebo effect''. Not sure what he meant-but it sounds good. :wink:

In all seriousness, the actual person who came up with these, apparently spent a fair bit of time and money developing them, so that they ''worked''. I will go and see what I can find on google and report back........or not if I can't find anything.
 
The M3 thread claims a 2hp gain which is quickly dismissed as i) negligible and ii) almost certainly just variation in the dyno. Another chap stated that he did a number of normal runs (nothing to do with scoops) and his measured power increased each run as heat built in the engine reducing the oil viscosity. The person who claimed 2hp didn't then take it off to prove the difference wasn't just due to variability.

Buy it if you think it looks good, personally I don't, but don't be deluded that it'll get you 10whp.

Nobody has actually posted that they fitted one on here and found a real difference as far as I'm aware.

funny thing is, if our cars were carbs, where by we can directly aim cold air to a big filter, the carb along with timing, both initial, and total can be tuned to make big gains, over open, non direct fed air.

Don't our cars use sensors to detect the additional air flow into / out of our engines and then uses that to tweak the amount of fuel the injectors supply?

More fuel + more air..... :stir: :poke:

Correct!
The Air Mass meter, Manifold a Actual Pressure sensor and Intake Air Temp sensor measure what's going in and the ECU is constantly making fuel trim adjustments, whether it's the rail pressure, injection duration or injection timing to keep the Air:Fuel ratio as ideal as possible.

Add slightly more air, colder air, and the fuel system does what it's need to with the fuel system to make it all match up.

The Lambda sensors (Pre cat) measure the exhaust mixture to make sure that the burn is ideal.
The Lambda sensors (Post cat) simply make sure the emissions system is doing its job.
 
yes, they do, and things like re mapping takes out the gliches and built in stoppers, to enable the sensors to work better and so on,

i was trying to say, that old fashioned carb/ timing tuning was done with exactly that in mind, its just more complex now

Hey guys, a year or 2 ago, I asked for a scanned copy of a magazine over there in the UK that had a nice write up on the Z4MC in it, and i was nearly keel hauled for blasphemy , herotic-ism and other such things in regards to how dare i ask for copy righted material, and a scan of such no less..

Now here, No offence to Dan, nor his intake, but come -the - f**k -on!! this is a blatant copy of the RPI scoop and as such, a blatant copy right infringement. If you like the scoop, how about you buy it from the guys who did the R&D and invest in as such.

anyways, as i said, not to offend Dan, nor anyone else here, but play fair guys.
