damp in fog lights

Mine have just gone again - had the originals replaced under warranty for same problem - that was about 2 years ago

only solution I've seen on here is to strip them down, clean out any damp & corrosion and reassemble with lots of sealant applied.

Otherwise its replacement with aftermarket LEDs & blanking plates

just been onto BMW to see if they are covered under my comprehensive cover, just had a roof done yesterday with a bill of £2100 but only had to pay the first £100, Ahhhhhhhhhh, think i will try and strip them first and see how i get on, unless they will replace them, fingers crossed

phone call from BMW will change them after they take them out, dry them and check to see if it there fault, or i can buy new ones at £114.08 each,!!!!!!!

My previous zed had same issue, and the dealer just changed them under my comprehensive warranty.

Top many people have suffered this problem! Not fit for purpose I'm afraid.

You're quite right there (as with the rear springs) but how do you go about proving it ? :)

I'm afraid you are never going to get BMW to admit that this is not a design fault. However, the number of failures is overwhelming proof that there is an inherent design fault. I've yet to see one facelift Zed that hasn't got the misted up fogs although apparently, when this was discussed last month, there was a solitary poster who said that his fogs were in perfect condition. Sounds like he was a lucky boy.
I don't worry about them now and am not going to spend £200+ plus fitting costs to replace for the problem to reappear later. I guess replacement fogs will have the standard BMW 2 year parts warranty but after that they won't admit liability if condensation reappears.
I switch them on and the condensation disappears but quickly returns a short time later. Vicious circle. :headbang:

I have the problem as well. :headbang:
how hard a job is it to replace them or to change them to LED? has anyone got a pictorial write up on the job?

Some great response lads and totally agree with you bmw will not admit fault and the problem will always be there an after market product is the solution I think , I have not found a suitable one yet but will try and in the meantime will take these apart and refurb them who has done this ? How easy to take the lights out, will do a video on it if there is that many of us with this problem, mick

To OP, yours look much better than mine. Mine are dripping rather than misty. 57 reg e86. Planning to remove and try and repair / seal. £230 is too much for 2 years before it happens again.
I read that newer ones are from a different supplier, but not had that confirmed by anyone with new fogs, maybe a US market supplier.

I refurbed mine about 6 months ago and the biggest issue was separating the clear lense from the rest of the fog light. I've heard of a few people cracking the lense but I just heated it up and and scraped away at the sealant with a small screwdriver :) good look and I look foward to seeing the video
