Dammm another week on the sofa! Wisdom/required

So the time has come again for me to sleep on the sofa! Why you ask?, because the Zed need’s some love! Which means the Mrs will be giving me NO love! For a considerable time!

Many will know I had an adventurous bank holiday! New lights, spacers all round, carbon badges, replaced lower grill, Gap-tech, I-Pad Install, Eibach pro kit etc, CDV delete.
I had a 4 wheel alignment completed shortly after the bank holiday and it highlighted that my front left wheel was seriously out and could be described as a serious concerning!

So the ZED has been put to rest for a while until I could get it sorted properly.

Now I have taken the car to my trusty indy and they highlighted the following needs doing before alignment can be completed:

1. Front shocks x2 knackered (I knew that!)
2. Top mounts need replacing.
3. Drop links L & R need replacing.
4. Control arm bushes need replacing.
5. Break lines corroded! (Not needed prior to alignment)

On the way home yesterday, the clutch starts slipping! The car is on 80K so it’s not unexpected!

So help needed with the following please:

1. Do I replace the clutch and the flywheel? (Advised that it’s my choice!).

2. Do I go braided break lines?

3. Given that I need new shocks, I purchased SPAX RSX kit, what other suspension bits should I do as the labour is going to kill me anyway!

You would need to have braided brake lines made up, unless they are saying the flexi hoses are shot which i doubt very much. Don't know of anywhere that does kits of braided lines off the shelf unfrotunately.

Otherwise just have them replaced with copper. Its a tricky DIY but possible. Have a look on realoem as it gives you the length of the lines and type of fittings, which you can then go to your local motor factors with and have them made up. Fitting is relatively simple if you are decent at DIY and can flush the brakes after.

Ready made up brake lines http://www.brake-lines.co.uk/automotive/bmw/z4-e85/ I've used these guys many time for bike hoses and they're good quality stuff

My Zeds on 39k and even then ive replaced alot of moving parts as well ( no good looking good on the outside if the inside is fucked )
Ive replaced my entire suspension, mounts and all bushes this month, then its a entire new brake kit which includes braded hoses within that.
I would only advise extensive work if you plan to keep your Zed for a long time or even forever, these cars are old now and will only get more expensive to maintain later on ( hence my huge workload inside and out as i plan to never sell )
Are you really sleeping on the sofa due to spending YOUR hard earned cash on the Zed? :?
I admire your work tho, some members do not have the passion like u and I :?

No  , doghouse yes  . I get this lots with the other half and friends. I get what they are saying, I paid just under 6K for the car, spent another £ :!: :!: :!: so surley I would be better off buying a brand new Kia! Well as you mention, these cars are old and everything old needs some love and attention. Just out of curiosity, did you go OEM bushes?

Hi

Are these flexible and simple to fit? Was quoted 2-4 hours for all 6!

I'm sorry to hear the issues with the zed, but I'm kind of glad to hear it's not just me that gets the exact same grief about the zed.

After I bought mine I found out there was a list of stuff that needed doing, my missus has a new Corsa so I got the whole speech about buying a brand new more sensible car.

anything the zed needs costs me double, I find something expensive and shiny for her at the same time helps a lot :P

Yeah funny isn't it how they complain about purchase of parts but then also complain when you spend a Saturday fitting an expansion tank/doing a coolant swap or replacing your plugs and coils saving hundreds of quid in labour?

I get "what you doing that for? Why don't you just get the garage to do it?' :headbang:

My wife likes peace quiet and tranquility. I spent a happy afternoon yesterday replacing the valve cover gasket. And she spent a happy afternoon baking (or something). Absence makes the heart grow fonder!

I wish pal, my women is all about the family time! Problem is that in my mind, the Zed is in the family, and to the other half, it's anything but family

And you get freshly baked bread(or something)

I get moaned at for washing my car after I've washed hers.

I usually just set the jetwasher on to her if she starts moaning at me :D

Jesus. I am lucky I have a wife who is into cars.

If I were getting moaned at for washing my car, she would have to make way. Good thing would be if she left, there would be room for another car on the drive... :P
