Damaged Rear Bumper... Insurance or Not?

Hi Guys,

I stupidly reversed into a low wall  that neither my mirror or parking sensors picked up and has damaged my rear bumper to the point of a respray is required.. :headbang:

Question is do I pay for it myself or do it on Insurance?

Local paint shop to me quoted £230+vat (£276 roughly)

My Insurance is £250 excess and I have protected NCD :) but I only get two claims before I would lose it, so not sure I want to use one of my two claims up?!?

What do you guys think? :? Picture to follow !

That's what I'm trying to decide, I know its a small amount of money, but also I get a courtesy car with insurance (should have mentioned that) so I'm tempted to use one of my claims for the convince factor, am I crazy? I do need a car while mines being done.. And local bodyshop doesn't have courtesy cars

Why would you claim for the difference of £26?????

This exactly! Even with protected no claims your premium will still go up following an accident and probably cost you significantly more than £26 of the next 5 years whilst you have to declare it. Also worth shopping around on the re-spray.

Worth shopping around on bodyshop, a local one I used before was cheap as chips and also lent me his jag S type as a "courtesy car" as a sweetener to the deal

Thanks guys, didn't think about the premium going up! :o I guess I just thought as it wasn't an accident as such that it wouldn't lol

Think I'll go pay for it myself, is £230 +vat not a good price then? What would you say guys say is a good price? Bear in mind I live in Cornwall and things are not as cheap here than upcountry!

I'v been quoted £170 for doing my front bumper (filling holes from the number plate holder I removed and also the cracks and chips from the previous owner bottoming it out presumably over speed bumps) fixing some rust on the OS front wheel arch and a dint in the drivers door. I don't get a courtesy car and he's doing it as a cash sale and its a guy I have used a few times so I doubt you'll find it that cheap but I think there's definitely scope for a cheaper deal, even if you just try and negotiate with the local place you got the price from

Bloody hell that's a good deal! :D

Yeah I may try to renegotiate with current local shop, but might also get some other prices for comparison and bargining

Rear bumper respray can be done for £150 cash! Also if its just a small
Mark and the rest of the bumper is fine then an isolated fix and then relacquer the lot would be cheaper.

Well for one I want a good job, not something that's gonna need re-doing after a few years, and its unfortunately not a small mark, will need full respray plus that fixes some other marks and a small paint peel so they would get sorted :)

I know only problem with my guy is he is booked up until August, in fact every time I'v been to him he's booked at least 2 weeks in advance so have to wait to get it done but worth the wait

Went up another local bodyshop after work and they quoted me £180+vat so think I've got a winner!! :D
