Dam window regulator

My driver's window started making the crunching sound last night shortly followed by a bang and guess what, yes I've not got a bust regulator.
I stripped it down last night and it's only the cable that has snapped but from my searching on here last night it seems that you have to buy the whole regulator mechanism for over £100.
Is there no way you can just buy the cable and repair it, surely it would be much cheaper?

Mine went last year, having searched I found a number of people on the forum had replaced their own regulator complete with cables (part about £130 from BMW) but attempts at the cable didn't seem successful. I paid a trusted local garage who did it all-in for about £175 from memory.

A word of warning, from my own bitter experience frameless windows can be a sod to fit and adjust correctly, or worse still end up busting first time if they pinch

If you do find a neat way to fix the cable be sure to post it as a lot of people would be interested, good luck.

Yeah, about 130 GBP and a couple of hours work if you've never done it before.

It's very simple to do.

Easier if you've two pairs of hands. But I managed fine by myself.

The hassles you'd have trying to replace the cable are probably not worth it.

The motor isn't part of the assembly you need

Is the regulator the motor? I only ask as I have aquired a spare motor. :driving:

No, the regulator is the lifter assembly with the cables (part 1) the motor is seperate (part 2).

Mine has done this! I foolishly played with the driver window when putting the roof up, a second of madness :( the window made a crash sound and no longer runs up and down. Having stripped the door down, it is the cable thats snapped. I was hoping it was like replacing a bike brake cable but from the sounds of this post, its a full regulator replace job which given its all behind the frame of the door must be an arse to fix.
