Daily dilemma

So I've changed my job role at the company I work for this means I'll no longer need a van for work. I'll be office base now before I was traveling alot around the UK. So looks like my Z will need to become a daily as I only have the one car. My Z 53 plate 71k miles 2.5, do I buy another car or just chuck the miles onto the Z will be 40 miles a day.
what would you do? I'm thinking my car isn't exactly special so worrying about the extra miles is pointless and running two cars will be stupid. Opinions please!

I agree that the car is too old to worry about mileage. I have a 2003 3.0i that is special to me but I use it all the time and enjoy it. This week was a 250 mile round trip to Heathrow and parked up for 3 days. Drove home most of the way with the roof down.

Maths is very hard to make another car work, even if cheap. You'd maybe save £500 on fuel if you got a 50mpg car but a second lot of insurance & tax plus initial purchase outlay. Another car to wash and service and an hour a day in a car you really won't like.
Now if it were a genuine classic or worth £50k then a different story.

I've had a similar decision to make. Running 2 cars was getting too expensive, particularly around service MOT time. One of them had to go. So next month the Zed becomes our only car and the DD. Fortunately we are only a couple of miles from work, but I still have the dreaded works car park to worry about - I'm currently working out the best parking spaces.
I guess it will come down to what you can sensibly afford, in an ideal world I would have the Zed as a garaged weekend car - but the reality is I would rather have it as a DD than not at all :)

The one with the cones either side! You can pick up a couple of them off the M6 without too much bother fella!

Well even with the crap weather loving driving the Z to work everyday don't miss the van one bit! Currently getting 35.7mpg so not to bad! Need to stop cleaning it so much though!

We're looking to slim our fleet down in the near future, I have the zed & mrs smartbear has a Mini Cooper which she's scared to leave in her works car park (bus depot) so I got her an ancient Nissan micra :o
3 cars is crazy really so the micras days are numbered, I'm looking forward to freeing up the driveway at smartbear towers already (making space for a caterham7) :D

One of the guys at my work has a big 4x4 and he's commented on how he can't see my car while reversing(we have double stacked spaces) so now I'm paranoid about my works carpark! Lol think the only way I could justify a second car would be to get a toy like a Caterham

Might not be the most prudent when it comes to putting on mileage but get enjoyment every day.

Also with Alfa, it may not be the best/most sensible idea. But I love driving it every day! Can't ask for much more than that. :driving:
