Daft Questions?

A couple of things I've noticed since I got the new M that I have to check though I suspect they may seem like daft questions. First one... When your side lights are on should only the inner halo's come on or both? ? Second... I've read somewhere that I should have an illuminated gearknob, mine doesn't but should it really?
Thanks in advance...

Tweaking has begun also with bypass pipes, Eibach springs, SatNav update disc and a stubby ariel ordered :D

... still pondering strut brace and wheels and desperate to get it booked in for proper detailing but it hasn't stopped raining since I got it!! :x

Only inner ring lights up. Knob should be illuminated.

My comments sound slightly dodgy but I can assure they're genuine

So my rings are ok but my knob is a cause for concern?... Can't see how anyone could read anything dodgy into that!

Seriously though, I wonder where the illuminated one has gone. Has anyone else just got a standard not illuminated one on an M?

It might the shorter ZHP weighted one, which isn't illuminated as standard, but can be modified as srhutch has done.

Just show us your knob and we can comment :D

The plug for the wiring is just underneath the edge of the sack, which can just be pulled up.

After a short delay while I read up on how to add photos, here is the knob in question. Is it an illuminated one that just isn't working or not one at all?... :o

That certainly looks like the standard fit Z4M knob. Its really easy to check the wiring just get some plastic trim removal tools and prise up carefully the gear knob surround.
You should then see two wires going to a white connector,if this is not present someone has had it away when they sold the car.

As above / wires prob disconnected from use

You can get a zhp shorter type which is illuminated without modding it :) cos I have one!

Just the gaiter - I just used my fingernails to squeeze it inwards and up!

Don't know about removing the gaitor :? .I would have thought it was easier to remove the whole piece of plastic.Have done this on a couple of Z4's
including mine with no problems.Gaitor is fixed to plastic surround.
Would definitely recommend buying a couple of trim removal tools to do this, they are only a couple of quid on ebay.

As above, I did this a couple of weeks ago. Pinch the leather in, then pull up. It really is that simple.

T66RGA, did you buy your M from Approved Used Vehicles? I see you have champagne leather and piano black, similar to one I was looking at before I got mine?

I did indeed. Very helpful they were too. They have a lot of Porsches so gave me a good deal on my 911 and a good warranty

Hope you hadn't noticed something horribly wrong with it!

Yeh it had everything I wanted and I liked the colour combo. I used to have an old z3 2.8 in blue with a tan interior which I loved that it reminded me of.

There on some pics of it in the Newbie section I think

Finally got around to investigating my non illuminating gear knob today using the advice given. Would you believe someone had just cut the live wire???.. Why? Anyway reconnected and now working perfectly! It's very satisfying on that rare occasion that I actually manage to fix something
