DAB Retro fit

Has anyone had the BMW DAB Retro fit done to their car?. I have asked my stealer about this option and it is £299 fitted which isnt bad to be fair but my concern is that it uses a windscreen mounted aerial rather than being an integrated unit. Understand that this would have put the price up way beyond what would be acceptable or maybe not even possible but have been bitten with windscreen mounted aerials before. For those of you with the retro fit, is the reception acceptable or do you consider it money down the drain? :!:

I don't have a whip or a stubby my antenna got ripped off from when the last owner had it all i had was the stump and I didn't have a problem with stations

Hi tspar, be careful as the USA Sirius system has far better cover. My experience of dab is that it us pants!!! :headbang: wait for more uk feedback as the two countries dab coverage are completely different.

You are right mate which is what prompted the question. Units that have DAB pre-installed and use the cars aerial for the signal seem fine, my wife's little Fiesta, old mans Golf being a prime examples. Its the windscreen aerials that usually produce pants reception. Don't want to throw £299 down the drain and be ever irritated by it !!. Noticed you are located in Suffolk. Town fan I hope (COYB !)

Dab will be obsolete soon. Unless there is a specific station you can't get at present don't bother. The sound quality is also worse than FM due to compression. Streaming over the mobile networks is the future.

I agree with the comments.

I have an X6 as well as the Zed. The X is a 2010 and the Zed is 2013 and both have DAB. Both get signal loss in exactly the same five locations on my way to work each day. Would love to get the Sirius system to access worldwide stations but not sure whether it is available here yet. Someone with more experience will no doubt comment.
