Dab Radio

We went over to France during April this year and there seemed to be no signal on the DAB radio. Should I expect the same "no signal " scenario in the Netherlands and Germany this summer?

There are a few but the same bad reception as in the U.K. No matter which car I take, I tend to switch to fm as otherwise it is just silence.

Thanks, I thought it might have been a setting when I was in France - I didn't have time to mess about.
I find it odd that BMW seem to push DAB and even add on kits when their homeland doesn't have the capability :(

Im quite happy with FM so if our cars didn't have it fitted as standard, I wouldn't be weeping. If it was a pay extra wouldn't bother either .

Internet radio will be the next best thing. I have it on the Porsche and now the roaming charges have stopped, I can actually use that a road now

The latest BMWs have Spotify app, so you can stream through that.

Thro the phone? Sorry if that sounds like a numpty question but I've not kept up with that tech!

Yes, you need the phone but the sign in details are kept in the car. Works well with the artwork as well.

Connects via Bluetooth to your phone. My x5 has that already so if you have the extended bt on your car you should be good to stream anyway.

DAB does seem a bit over-rated IMHO - I get more stations on my PC than I can get at home using DAB. :headbang:

Shame really, because when it does work the sound quality is really good.

I've had our 2011 X5 in France and Germany over the last two years and picked up DAB stations OK. Is your DAB receiver capable of receiving the DAB+ signal? You would've thought it would be.

You can pick up a DAB signal, but within a few miles it has gone again. I switched off the auto-fm backup as well as there is a second overlap or so which meant it sounds like it is repeating all the time when it loses the signal again.
