DAB Integration

I've been looking for a way to intregrate DAB+ into my car, but I'm falling at the first hurdle really.

does anyone know about a decent USB DAB+ tuner?

I'm looking to integrate it with either a rasp pi or an arduino, and ideally have the station name appear on the original stereo (hence the need to pass it through a pi/ino)

any thoughts?
 
Can't help as I've looked at all the 'hidden' units that use RDC or Aux inputs, but just couldn't find anything that would give me all the features I wanted - and that's without needing your requirement of pi or arduino integration.

Tried Alpine, AutoDAB, Kinetic, MediaDAB, Dension, etc. without much luck, so gave up. Still have a quick check every year just in case something new has popped up though.
 
Yeah that's about as far as I've got really.. Which is disappointing.
Would have thought dab would have actually come along a bit by now considering the push its getting from the automotive industry now.

Still.. Hoping someone's got a gem :)

I see from you post your are Notts based. I have an alpine after market set up so its not what you are after. I have to say that a lot of the DAB channels are sadly lacking in quality. The main BBC and main commercial channel are of reasonable quality. I like Absolute 80's but unfortunately as soon as you get out of the built up areas the reception is not all its cracked up to be.

Alpine do an ad on unit though how you would integrate it I am not sure. NeilP is pretty switched on with this sort of issue.

Alpine Ezi-dab. :thumbsup:

Plug it straight into your aux in.

The main downside is somewhere to put the screen and (due to the inherent issue of digital vs analogue) coverage can be an issue.

If it's just DAB you're after, you may have better luck just increasing your data allowance and streaming instead.

I've got DAB in the Mini and, like you say, the lesser channels do die out outside of the city.
However, it's mainly for better reception of the BBC channels and Planet Rock, which, if the Mini is to go by, is pretty solid in most of the areas I drive more regularly (motorways, etc).

I definately don't want to swap headunits, as I've worked quite hard so far to keep everything OEM looking in the car, and I really cannot stand the faceplate adaptor you need to use - If I was going to do it, I'd seriously look at getting a complete dashboard wrap as well, which obviously pushes the price up massively, effectively ruling out the change anyways.

I looked at adapters, and I'm thinking this might be the way to go in the short term if we can't find a more "customisable" solution

That's exactly what I don't want.. which is why I'm really struggling :cry:

If the Ezi-Dab, for example, implemented a2dp/AVRCP instead of having a dedicated screen, I'd be very interested.
But all I ever seem to find is the reverse (the DAB device can work as a HOST device, but not as a child).

Gah.. maybe I need to buy a chip and dig back into the world of eprom programming and make my own... bleugh
 
There is AutoDab, no experience with the unit, but it's aimed at OEM applications.

yeah, already looked at those and they won't do it.

As I say, I'm ideally after a usb-orientated one for implementation via a Pi / Arduino.

Someone was saying in another thread that Dension did a DAB plug in module for their gateway device. I'll see if I can remember where I read it.
