first thoughts after 400 miles. I miss my dab! Cars been great. Quick when necessary and economical when cruising. But I’ve forgotten how tedious FM radio mainstream can be. I like my station and it’s only in Dab. Planet rock!

What are my options?, car play - don’t fancy it. Some sort of Dab plug in? Don’t have usb in armrest.

This is a 2010 e89 with I drive and some sort of hard disk in glovebox.

Thanks

Can you connect a smartphone and stream it through that?
No usb support…maybe no Bluetooth extended media support?..if it exists then stream dab app on phone through extended Bluetooth

There was an adaptor called "Connects2 DAB BM1" that was the most integrated I've seen, but I can't find one for sale (even used) so must be out of production by now. EDIT* Correction found one under a different number... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12627569...58cGRhrm0a3U367qb-VGQnmA8Ui8mOWhoCQnsQAvD_BwE
These were the original BMW supplied units.
Video of it here..

Other options are the AutoDAB GO...
This connects via the AUX socket for audio. There's also the GO+

Have you thought about buying an after-market Apple Car Play module for the CIC system. You already have the iDrive controller. That way you can use Google Maps/Waze etc, and play DAB stations using your phone? Loads on eBay etc. Usually £200 to £400 with perfect integration. Using Car Play via the iDrive wheel is a pain so control through your phone is preferable. Asked a question about DAB+ last week and received similar advice.

My ‘proper’ car has car play and I’m not keen. If I have to spend money to make it happen then I’d prefer something that just offers dab on my current system.

I believe that no extended Bluetooth existed back in 2010. Also to play of USB I understand the iDrive button would show CD/media and mine just shows CD???

Bluetooth music was available from when the Combox came out (circa 2011 model year). USB was available from the start, this would give you the option of using a memory stick with music on it, or combined with the AUX socket you could plug an iPod in (special Y cable required).
Not having the USB would leave you with just the AUX socket, so audio out via a 3.5mm jack plug was your only option.
The other Media option i think you're referring to would be part of the Connected Drive. This only works with iPhones and used to give you various apps on the iDrive screen. A USB to Lightning cable was required for this. I belive Spotify is the only one that still works in the UK, but I think they can also have Pandora in the US.

Yes. I only have a 3.5mm aux under the arm rest and USB in the glovebox.
