BMW are twats.

when they replaced my Z4 cos of it leaking, I asked (and pushed quite hard) to add DAB radio. They wouldn't do it, and I was gonna pay for it, so it didn't need to affect the finance etc.

They said its not allowed to make changes to a replacement vehicle, even if the customer pays for it.

they told me BMW are releasing a fully integrated retrofit kit, so its not a problem. That kept me quiet, but it turns out the "fully integrated" kit is not fully integrated! It has a seperate remote!

Is it possible to retrofit the proper DAB radio so it can be controlled via idrive etc?

i've not heard of one

i did look into it a while back, think autodab do a kit, but you need a remote and antenna stuck to windscreen

Interesting article, quite a few cars with DAB as standard now.

Reception is still rubbish though, depending on where you live and drive you may not be missing anything.

You will never get the richness of FM radio with DAB. 'They' would have us believe that DAB is a superior broad cast medium, but this is actually a ploy to cut their costs.

UK dab roll out has now been pushed back by two years. Not losing sleep over this, I'll be one more car down the line by then...

Have you not seen the thread on babybmw? There is a kit from halfords which is cheaper than BMW's which is fully integrated. Only downside is doesn't appear to store stations against buttons so you have to use scroll up/down through head unit or MFSW.
