Sony's PlayStation network has been shut down after cyber-attackers overloaded it in what's known as a distributed denial of service attack.

I don't really understand why people would want to cyber attach, the internet really does bring out the worst in people, as well as the best. I just don't get cyber attacks, aside from annoying a lot of people. I hope they get caught and given a bit more than a slap on their hands.

Wondered what was going on yesterday, seemed to be back up first thing this morning but I've not been on again.

All I want is 30mins on BF4 and it's down... pointless idiots

The attack was in protest at Sony's security policy. Some may argue they're doing you a favour given the information you would have handed over on registration to PSN.

There are better ways of highlighting a problem than taking the system down entirely.

I don't recall giving many details over, and I don't have a bank account listed with the account as I bought the yearly sub independently and added it to the account via the code. An email address isn't top secret so if someone knows it (but can't access it as it uses a different password) then I don't feel at risk.
