cut a hole through the back of the boot !!!!!!!!

I've had a look at Shipkillers intructions fot geting at the Roof Motor ... but quite honestly I'd be too frightened to mess up as it looks like a very long job just to get at the Roof Motor.

To try and avoid removing the roof when the motor goes duff would we be able to cut a hole through the back of the boot into the passenger side sump where the motor is fixed???

If this was possible it wd make maintaining the motor and cleaning the drain holes out without removing the roof. (We could always make a little door to cover the hole)

Oh well ... just an idea

It's not just an idea----it's been done before, and you don't need to 'cut' a hole either. There's a thread on here somewhere---I can't find it right now. But there's a link to a German (I believe) forum where they give instructions on how to change the convertible roof motor from the trunk in around an hour. No need to remove the entire top.

Unfortunately I don't speak german, but there are pictures on there and some of the comments are in English. I should have bookmarked it.

It's not just an idea----it's been done before, and you don't need to 'cut' a hole either. There's a thread on here somewhere---I can't find it right now. But there's a link to a German (I believe) forum where they give instructions on how to change the convertible roof motor from the trunk in around an hour. No need to remove the entire top.

Unfortunately I don't speak german, but there are pictures on there and some of the comments are in English. I should have bookmarked it.

Awesome... read most of that thread translated to english. My favorite posts? The ones that link back to THIS forum with shipkillers tutorial / pictures as reference.

So I was wrong.. looks like they do not get to the pump from the trunk. Instead they remove some trim from the convertible top without removing the entire canvas top, pull out the pump, and repair/replace. Or they remount it into the trunk area using the same 'holes' as the emergency release cable.

Looks like some folks have found that the pump turned out to be fine, it just needed to be dried out and the contacts cleaned up from corrosion.

I would upload some photos but it seems the forum doesn't allow adding attachments?

Seems a bit extreme moving it to the boot as the other options are easier such as keeping the drains clear, and it also keeps it all OEM which will be good come sale time.
