Curry's Rant

Had similar experiences with PC World who I believe are one and the same Company with Currys - went in recently for a quote on getting a laptop fan replaced - the place was virtually empty of customers - I stood at the repairs counter for about 10 minutes and nobody came over to help - just walked out in the end :x

Had a similar issue with Currys customer service being useless and uninterested. Sent a complaint letter, £20 voucher back in return, not too shabby!

I always find Currys is good for a laugh as they seem to employ the stupidest people on the planet. Personal examples;
"Is this CD burner Burnproof?" "Oh yes. They rarely catch fire now" :?

"So, with this extended warranty if I drop the laptop within 3 years you give me a new laptop AND a new 3 year warranty?" "Oh yes" "So, if I break the laptop every 2 years I have a new laptop every 2 years free of charge?" "Oh yes" ( needless to say she couldn't find this clause in the warranty document!)

I used to work for Currys and its not good they hire almost anyone or anything. lol The training videos show PS1 in the background with 90s hairstyles to boot. I would avoid them like the plague as 9 times out 10 they are more expensive than the internet. I do feel bad for them as all staff are on Minimal wage.

My last Curry's experience was not a good one.

Ordered a basic Windows PC for my Grandmother (the latest phase was poetry and story writing and she decided she wanted to be able to type her poems & stories out - therefore needed a PC).
Found one online, ordered, paid, collect in store.

Similar story to Tim, couldn't find anyone to serve us when we arrived. Customer Services desk abandoned... Finally found someone who didn't really have any interest in going to see where the PC was.

Finally the guy came back with the PC and passed it to me (quite a large box) and said I needed to go to the till point. Off I go, with merely a few feet between me and the til lpoint I am intercepted by some chump in a suit that starts babbling on about increased warranty and PC protect and the amazing deals they've got on antivirus software at the moment.
I explained that this PC was going to be a stand alone PC, not connected to anything and purely used for word processing so I was sure Microsoft Works would be fine. Unfortunately chump was missing the sense of humour upload and he just stared at me blankly for 10 seconds before going into his second patter about wireless printers (We've already got one thanks) Online gaming packages (I don't think so) and online helpdesk support (see above - won't be connected to the internet).

I must be approaching 20 minutes in the store now and he wouldn't let me leave. He then starts going through the paperwork like I'm applying for a mortgage, 'hmming' and sucking air through his teeth. I finally just asked where I needed to sign to say I'd received the item and would be on my way. I signed, grabbed the receipt and legged it.

It's just a soul destroying experience and not one I wish to repeat any time soon.

only reason I use them is I get cashback vouchers annually from my Amex credit card...

otherwise like others always order online from Amazon, ebuyer, dabs... or instore with richer sounds...

laptop this year, and yes they tried to sell me all kinds of other stuff - over the phone before I even got to the store :o

Glad its not only me then :D Hmmmmm £20 sympathy vouchers, must complain more often then

I was pretty desperate to use Currys as I wanted to pick the item up in person than having it delivered with working during the day etc, lesson learn't

Tim.

You all must look a bit too trusting, start looking shifty when you go in to buy something.
Normally within a few minutes of being in a shop I get asked if I would like any help with anything.
I hate going shopping or browsing for anything, I feel like a shoplifter with staff following me around. :(

To get served quickly just disconnect one of the security cables and someone will be straight over. :)

I find it very frustrating that these 'out of town shops' like currys, homebase etc take so long at the tills. Imagine if Tesco took so long, they would go bust.

Its still all about upselling the warranties.

Although the last thing I bought from Currys I had a good experience so they certainly lack consistency.

Yea, Tescos is great. :o
Theres a Tesco Express in an Esso petrol station near me and when you go in for fuel you have to stand in a queue while people pay for their weeks shopping. :x
There should be 2 queues.

cant complain about pc world in speke, bought a ssd, hd caddy, and a monitor from them recently. all were within <£10 of online prices and as i wanted them there and then i didn't mind the price difference. walked in found them and job done.

i guess its down to expectation. i dont expect great service in there and generally it was a bit haphazard in these cases.
