Current Z4 used prices- UK

I was always under the impression that you pretty much lost the price of options and VAT the minute you drove off the forecourt, and any options you do have just make it more attractive? Hopefully I'm wrong!

I got lots of glass valuations before I bought, but as I was unsure on spec I did a few on the same car with different spec.

No difference, so I did more tests, with no options, and all options, still the same prices.

The options made no difference, which I thought was hard to believe, but there you go. From glasses guide too

Clearly they DO make a difference, but probably more to ease of sale and getting your asking price, than actually ADDING a significant amount.

Personally I think options can end up being something you feel you have to get no matter what, when a lot of them you may well not want anyway.

I remember speaking to someone ages ago about this kind of thing, he had a Peugeot of some description and he'd added a various things from the options list went to part ex it and got offered a basic price, Dealer told him at the end of the day it was a 206 whatever here is the value in the book that's what I'm offering if you want the things you have put on it to try and sell them on then do so, they are worth nothing to me.

Not to sure about those AA valuations, they value my car at £15.375 and the partners C2 VTS at £7,295. We were offered £5.5k part ex on the VTS end of last year by BMW though. The longer Z4's hold there money the better as i plan to upgrade once my cars worth more then the settlement fee.

The AA pricing takes into account an average mileage and the prices quoted are dealer prices...

Used cars: the price shown is an indicative 'windscreen price' assuming the car to be in excellent condition and having covered an average mileage. The actual price will depend on condition, mileage, negotiation, trade-in terms and other factors.

The used car price shown is the 'dealer asking' or 'windscreen' price. It is not necessarily the price you would actually pay, as it may be the subject of negotiation, discount or an extra allowance on the value of your own car in a part exchange transaction. It will also vary depending on any special offers applicable at the time, condition, length of warranty and any options and extras that may be fitted. The condition of the vehicle is assumed to be excellent. Glass's average car will cover 12,000 miles each year for the first three years of its life, 8,000 miles for the next three years and then 6,000 miles each year thereafter. The amount quoted should be used as a guide only.

Cars outside Glass's age and mileage ranges, some specialist or limited edition vehicles in short supply or rare vehicles will not appear on this site.

For a more accurate valuation of a specific vehicle, the condition, age/registration and recorded mileage must be taken into account. Detailed valuations are available based on data supplied by CAP. Click on the 'Detailed valuations' link after selecting your model.

If you select the correct age of car you can then enter the mileage and bring up a detailed price report from CAP.....including trade in values.

How does it compare to what this says:-
http://www.theaa.com/cbg/ManufacturerAction.do?SEARCH_CTGY=FOURTH_SEARCH&journey=fullValuation

Come out at £16,825 on there

Putting 20k miles in it says;

Price when new £29,965
Garage/retailer's selling price £17,395

Trade-in values
Clean Condition £14,350
Average Condition £13,350
Below Average Condition £12,400

So your £14.5k seems pretty accurate to the above, no?

Mine came out as £21,725 on there.

Compairs well with the M coupe of the same age, £25,825, considering the difference between them new!.

I've had an email from the guy who sold that Z4M. It sold for £17,400!!!

He said he had several offers of £16k and £17k.

At least I now have a benchmark for future negotiations.

Price of mine when new was around £35k with Leather, 108's, Heated Seats, Comfort Pack, Wind Deflector, SatNav, Met Paint, CD Changer etc..

Question is how much do those options add? SatNav only seems to add £200ish dealer didnt seem to fussed on that either way.

When I go to see the new Z4 this Saturday, I am going to ask what the part exchange of my car. I think I will get what I paid for 3 months ago. It has xenon headlights, black leather, ipod interface, 108's, brushed aluminium trim, multi-function steering wheel. It has 1 previous owner and done 45k miles (06/56 Reg).

I might see if i can get a part ex value on mine this weekend also. Plan to go see the new Z4 aswell. I only do 4-5k a year so milage will always be low, that should help the resale price.

Let it go for far to less IMO but depends if he needed to sell it quickly. Even BMW might of give him more for a straight sale?

BMW offered me 15,000 for a near 30,000 mile 2006 3.0 Coupe back in March and I wouldn`t be surprised if they offered a bit more now. I reckon BMW would of offered more than 17,400 for it if they tried a few dealers.

I believe the AA website is about a month out of date and prices have risen by about £250 this month on the Coupe.

Trouble is finding a dealer who uses the most update cap price and is willing to give you cap guide price for your part ex and sell his at guide price too.

I imagine it's unlikely you'll be able to have your cake and eat it, unless you are seriously upgrading and/or the dealer in question can easily move your car within the group. Part ex's that are underwritten by an independent are usually a bit pony I have found.

On the national search on the BMW site I was looking at some used X6 and M3 prices yesterday and noticed a localish dealer to me is selling a March 2007 Z4M with 16,000 miles for £23,800! The same dealer had an auto '07 3.0si Coupe for only £1,000 cheaper!

The M has no extras, the 3.0 is quite well loaded however and milage lower in the 3.0.
Nobody would buy an M these days for a decent price without the most important extra - cupholders

I think I have made a mint. I paid 14.5k for mine back in Jan and just valued in using glass and it came out at 17.5K!!! Its a facelift 3.0si with 30K! I am happy.

Yep, if they can lose so much late last year, it could easily be replicated again :(

Just best to ignore it as much as you can and enjoy I suppose. Longer term their depreciation curve is fairly shallow for this kind of car, so you'll only really get a shock if you buy/sell quickly and at the wrong times imho.
