Current E85 prices

Whats the general consensus on E85 prices, particularly the Pre Facelift cars. I'm about to help one of my brothers join the club but haven't looked at the prices for a year now since I got mine. I did think up to the last week or so from things I have read on here they were holding up well but I recently seen a few posts that seem to imply they are softening or even nose diving.

Is this true?

What do you folks think the current picture is pricing wise? I have to admit from my personal point of view the idea of them crashing isn't great (even though I have no intention of selling) but then when I stop thinking selfishly and think of it from my brothers as a current buyer the low the better I suppose.

Last year I got my 05 Plate 3.0i with just under 80k for under £4,600. I think I did quite well value wise at the time as the guy selling just wanted to get a bit more money than the likes of WBAC etc were offering him and I did use this to my advantage. Surely a car like mine is still worth at least this? Or maybe not!

Interested to hear your thoughts
 
If your the prefacelift end of the market,then i wouldnt worry about prices so much.

They will always be worth £3500+ but may dip in the winter....Like all roadsters..

Get him in one and start enjoying it..
 
Depends on your budget and how new. Good examples of early cars, particularly 3.0 with some spec are strong and are probably going to hold now. Average or poor examples will continue to tail off downwards. Early face-lift 3.0Si are desirable and holding well, any late cars are going to suffer the usual market depreciation. The froth seems to be coming off the ///M market a bit with a mini-glut of cars failing to sell quickly but I think that's just a temporary situation.

I'd always pay top dollar for a really good early car with all the work done over an indifferent late one simply because repair and refurbishment is disproportionately expensive, but that's just me. For example I paid about £10k for my exceptionlly low miles and maintained 2.5SE 6 1/2 years ago. I've spent on nothing but routine maintenance stuff and I guess it's lost £5k ish in that time which is less than the year one loss on my new BMW Mini!

It's a good time to buy as the Z4 is looking like a serious bargain and what's the alternative £ for £? 8)
 
If you buy a well cared for 3.0 2004/2005 with a full history,with a milage below 70k ,that has been used as a second car i would expect to pay between 5 and 7k. You could buy a rough one for between 3 and 4k, and end up spending 2k on it.

but you could also buy a good one over 100k for 3-£4k that doesn't require £2k spend on it :wink: used cars are always a gamble & all you can do is your homework & a gut reaction for a good or bad example , from then on either could cost money
 
I paid 3k for my 2.5 over a year ago but had to spend another 500 getting it right, no problem though as it was worth more than that when it was written off....

I spent more than double that on my si but still think I got a good deal :?

There are so many engine and spec combinations and taking milage and age into account it can be rather difficult to work out what it or isn't a good deal....

Best thing to do imo is pick the engine and spec level you want and compare prices between just those that meet your requirements... If you decide to go up or down in spec then check prices again
 
I went for a 2008 low mileage (35k) 3.0si and paid 10k. I must have spent about another 2k for MSport seats, remap, CDV delete, royal wheels steering wheel and a few other bits and bobs. Oh, and a hard top for £950.
Anyway, to answer your question 5k - 7k should get you a good early prefacelift - 3.0i is the one to buy :thumbsup:
 
Paid £8k for my 2004 3.0SE with 28600 miles three and a half years ago - decent spec inc nav ,blue tooth ,M seats etc - car was mint other than wheels needing refurb - since owning had all wheels refurbed £230 , rear springs £240 , servo brake sensor £140 - mileage still under 30k .

Like to think as it's a mint 2 owner only car and totally original with such a low mileage it may still be worth £7k ( or £12k if for sale at Sytners :rofl: ) Reality is it's probably nearer £6k or even less :(

Doesn't really matter as it's not for sale and as many of us have said £ for £ you couldn't buy a comparable car for the money

My brother has got a budget of £5-6K so hopefully we will find something decent, its only going to do 2-3k a year as a weekend car (he's a driving instructor during the week). Looking at the prices I cant really see an argument for anything but a 3.0, the price differential is so small it doesn't make sense to go for a smaller engine car, particular when you consider the extra kit the 3.0 gets as standard.
After studying prices yesterday my take is they are holding up and are very similar to what they were last year when I was buying mine.

He just needs to decide what colour he wants now!
 
Imo E85 prices have barely dropped in about 2 years. You get the odd one at silly money fit a quick sale. They really are a bargain though and still love mine after 7 plus years. Mine has depreciated on average less than 1k a year so cheap motoring!
 
in the 4 years ive been playing the Z game they were predictable (with seasonal swings of course ) within 10% but this year since maybe Feb/March prices are well down on where they were , obviously reflected by demand but I would say across the board 15-20% down :?
Economic confidence from the brexit & E89 prices both having a negative effect , will have to wait & see if they strengthen but I don't expect any change from where we are now .

Its true - all very unpredictable, at least order has been restored with your avatar Andy :wink: gotta stick with the same one or people like me get unnerved :cry: (its still not the same though - the original one was lighter and the colours were more vivid)

Yea it was time to bring it back , it captures my world once again :( feeling squeezed :cry: need to be in 2 places workwise & also need to be in France but can't due to work + home , , daughter is on driving test this week after 12 months of lessons whilst recently split with longterm boyfriend so homelife is emotional to say the least :cry: wine is a great tonic though :P
