Working for BMW myself I can see it from the other perspective.
Dealerships break even or even lose on a new car sale unless they can hit quarter/annual targets. They make the money more in service, parts and customer retention.
Therefore with 3 months of closure and big showroom overheads etc they now need to start recovering from those losses so discounts on new cars are going to be very hard to find.
They are currently cautious that as car showrooms were one of the first retail types to reopen they’ve experienced a bit of a false start and honeymoon period as it’s one of the few places people could venture this month.
Short term people haven’t been drinking, eating out, commuting, and spending on other household furniture items etc so may be feeling temporarily a bit flush at the moment and buying in the first week or two.
Long term people may not be taking expensive holidays abroad and also with more people considering UK holidays, there may be a justification for upgrading the family car but Dealerships are being very careful not to give cars away now only for the initial demand to drop of soon.
Used and ex-Demo values will be dropping whilst cars sit about so better deals may be available there I would guess.
