Current British Sci Fi and Fantasy thread

Blue Remembered Earth (Poseidons Children 1) - Alastair Reynolds

The Hydrogen Sonata - Iain M Banks

Both

The Departure & Zero Point - Neal Asher, books 1 & 2 of The Owner Trilogy

Love all his books, but you need to try to start from the beginning, or read the trilogies in order. Obviously. But you know what I mean, as stories sometimes interweave between 'threads' of novels.

Just waiting for the final book in the Wheel of time series by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson anyone been reading these ?
I'd highly recommend them

Nope, not read - this is a great idea Fin

I can come back here every time I get that empty feeling when I have finished a great book and then need to find another from a 'new to me' author...

Neal Asher - I have a full set of first edition hardbacks. Apart from cowl.

Scotland has been absolutely excellent for scifi fantasy this last couple of decades

the wheel of time, I got to about book ten. I think it was coming off the boil.

.Can't have been that bad.

The latest hamilton great north road novel

Agree with your other post - Night's Dawn was a genius trilogy, and he's back up there with Great North Road.

As for you having Asher first edition hardbacks - nice

Sadly I have mainly paperbacks as I have discovered him late... And now my books are all becoming digital. Mainly lack of space - I reckon I have about 500 books in my loft and office, possibly even more. I also like the instant gratification of buying a novel immediately :D

Terry Pratchett, disc world novels, from The Colour of Magic onwards, started reading at about age 13 and read every one since. A great escape from anything remotely resembling real life, yet successfully and comprehensively taking the pi$$ out of real life. Genius :D

Amazon are bad news when there is a dispute. If anything goes wrong they will refuse to discuss any difficulties and refer you to their terms and conditions. Which are harsh. I have gone back to buying solid.

Up to book 4 at the moment, but have up to 13 on the shelf.

I've read most of the books by Terry Brooks, Trudi Canavan, Karen Miller etc, I know they aren't all British but still.

I read "Zoo" by Otsuichi during a recent flight. It's a series of short stories that at times can be slightly disturbing and at others frankly a bit odd. I know Japan is not in the UK, but I did read it in English and it left a bit of an impression

Should I add Japanese so we can wax lyrical over Haruki Murakami?

Not someone I have read - think I read a Japanese author once, was a strange experience. Must try to remember what it was...
