Current British Sci Fi and Fantasy thread

Not sure if they count, but the Rivers of London books may count as magic / reality based with a healthy slab of humor thrown in.

London Falling is also in the same vain, but much darker...

In need of some reading matter anyone got a book that stands out ! Prefer fantasy but good sci fi is ok too
Just been working my way through Neil Gaiman's books ,the ones that stick out are Neverwhere , Ocean at the end of lane and American Gods

If Nick Harkaway is British ( and I suspect he might be ) then try him. I think he is an outstanding new addition to modern British fantasy.

Three books so far

Gone away world -- more ideas per paragraph than most novelists have in xtheir back catalogue. Excellent, Sadly I have lost the hardback to one of my thieving mates. Grrr

Angelmaker

Tigerman

Great stuff all imo.

Harkaway is British, son of John le Carre, I didn't know that.

And I rate his work as better than Gaiman's, apart from stardust, which I thought to be exceptionally well written.

Rivers of London is a good read, just finished the 5th Book, Foxglove Summer which I really enjoyed.

Also to all you SyFy fans, I am reading the Expanse books by James S.A. Corey, which have been most excellent so far and are currently being filmed for SyFy

Also Peter F. Hamilton has released a new book about the void, called The Abyss Beyond Dreams, again very good but it helps, but not essential, if you have read the other books in the Commonwealth Universe, these remain some of the best Sci-fiction books I have read.

Oh and Metal Licker, have you read The Martian?

Sars.
You really should get your paws on this

I will be looking into the void

I've read the Expanse series so far, loved it. I didn't know it was being filmed, that'll be ace. Hopefully.

I've got the Abyss on my iPad i think, waiting to be read

Honestly, The Martian is the best book I've read in a few years, in fact I have read it twice now, there are parts where I literally burst out laughing in public

Bing, the Abyss is good, enjoy

Thanks Fin, will look at that one

'Rivers of London' sound similar to Brian Lumley's Necroscope series - although our protagonist is a copper/wizard rather than a detective/soldier/necroscope.
