Cupholder question

I bought my car with a second identical cuoholder stashed in a convenient spot in the glove compartment. Always made me wonder if theres a place to put it in the car... but no amount of searching ever turned anything up. Can you kind folk confirm that theres only a place for one and for some weird reason the previous owner just had a "spare"?

My center console is the phone interface / dual cupholder style but i despise keeping it up to use those.

UK (right hand drive) cars never had the option of the center console transmission tunnel mounted cup holder, only left hand drive market's.
There was only ever the passenger side single mount produced and offered as an option.
There was, however, the cup holders inside the armrest that were not overly practical while driving, more of a convenience while parked for somewhere to place your drive-thru Gatorade! 8)

I have seen an owner mount a second tunnel mount original to the first one with quite a bit of fabrication which seemed to do the trick (again, left hand drive vehicle).

After having cup holders on my e85…. I didn’t even consider they wouldn’t be in the e89.

Proper BMW cock up if you ask me…

They designed a flappy pocket for the door, surely a decent holder could’ve been squeezed in somewhere
