Cup Holders (e89)

So I'm getting really p$ssed of that my car doesn't have any cup holders.

1st world problem I know right?

So, I looked at Halfords tonight at their chav range that clip onto the vents, but the one I tried didn't fit (and looked crap, but I would only put it in place when using).

The other option is one of those ones that clip on the door, hooking over the door card into the window rubber.

How about the ones in the armrest? My car has a phone connector and empty tray (shown below).

I've seen some with cup holders in place of the empty tray. How easy would it be to swap?

I appreciate that even then its not ideal, but think I could live with having the armrest lid in the up position when using it. Gotta be better than nothing!

Can anyone help, or recommend something else? (the official BMW one is only for left hand drive cars).

I've got one of these bad boys...

Your tray can be swapped out for one with a tray and cup holders.
The most difficult part is removing the phone cradle.
Once you have the phone cradle out disconnect the wiring and tuck it all under the centre console.
The cupholders are not great and they are not in the best place but they work.
Realoem shows all the parts needed and can be ordered from the dealer.

Can you post a picture of it in situ? Does it get in the way and is it secure? Most usage would be McDonalds coffee!

Just found the parts for the centre console on realoem and emailed Cheltenham bmw for a price (they’ve always been competitive in the past).

There were cup holders in my E89 when I bought it. They work OK and look very neat. Photo below

Yeah, that’s the one, although realoem shows the cup holders being on the right hand side and phone on the left, but that’s probably linked to if the car is left or right hand drive. Mine is right hand drive so perhaps I chose the wrong one on realoem. Not bothered which side it is really.

Will see what the price is, might end up with one of the other options mentioned above.

That's what ours looked like before I removed the phone cradle and bought the rubber mat for the bottom of the tray.
A much more usable space now, for what it is.

Interesting. Where did you buy the rubber mat? The phone cradle is of no use to me as I have an iPone XS which I have paired to Bluetooth for calls and address book. A tray would be a lot more use for me as well.

I got the part number from realoem and the mat from the local BMW dealer.
