Cup holders - 3D printed

I am sure we have all either lamented the lack of cup holders in the car - or reveled in the smugness of having them!

Being in the have-not camp - and not prepared to shell out the money for the OEM fitment, I turned to the 3D printer. Below is version 1. This will have a pair of "forks" which will insert above and below the blanking panel, with a layer of velco to tighten up the fit and keep it all snug.

I will post some more pictures once I get them fitted - probably next week :)

Likewise... my driver side has been glued a few times but doesn't hold for long, a replacement arm from something more sturdy would be of interest to many people i would think!

Somebody on here 3D printed new arms for the oe cupholders, I know this because I bought one (but can’t remember who from!)

Happy to give it a go in terms of printing new arms. I would need the design - or one of the pieces to scan and copy. I can print in PETG, which is similar to nylon and is very hard to break, or possibly in carbon fibre - which is as strong as aluminium, but this is a bit more costly - about £7 per print.
 
having broke both mine last year (1 day broke 1, then the next day the other!!!) I would defo be interested in the replacement arms!
 
Assume right hand is different to left? So you’d need one of each?
 
Yes, I would need both parts. I will then get one of our designers to draw it up and then print them. If someone is happy to send me the damaged ones, I can make a start on these.
 
Would these be a direct replacement/fit for some of us who don't have cup holders as standard. If so I'd be interested in a set :)
 
Think it’s two things.

1. An alternative to the OEM cup holder.

2. The replacement arms of you have OEM cup holders as they break!
 
Interested in seeing finished product and if they are good which I think they will be would definitely be interested in a pair :thumbsup: depending on price :tumbleweed:

I think the arm needs to milled from aluminium instead of plastic. Aluminium would be most durable!

Has anyone taken out their cupholders and looked at how they are assembled? To me, it appears difficult to disassemble.

Well, if you want to go halves on the flights...

I can get the parts printed in carbon fibre - which has the same strength as aluminium - better in the printed plane.

Not seen one close up, so can't comment on the ease of disassembly.

I will print out the 1 piece holder today and look at how to fit it to the car.

Watch this space!
 
Been lucky with mine so can’t offer them up. But will upgrade to CF ones if they get made! Bit of preventative maintenance :thumbsup:
