Cup holder

I’ve just replaced my cup holder. However once installed into its position the holder will not close. it does not engage. I have removed it again and it is not slotting onto t(e right place at t(e back of the unit. It will engage when not in position but as soon as ai place the cup holder back it stops, does anyone have any helpful advice? With thanks.
 
Hard to say without seeing it. I installed two into my E86 that came without the holders and with limited fiddling, it slid home nice and smoothly.
The only obstruction was the air pipe that from memory sits above the holder so it could be worth making sure that hasn't come loose at all as that could be messing with the mechanism in some way. Although it is pretty self-contained as far as I remember.

Hey I installed a couple of cup holders in my e85 but It's hard to tell what went wrong without seeing your work
