**Sorry pic heavy***

I'd saved this project up for a lockdown day expecting to waste a few hours- dammit it took less than ten mins!

Saw the Amazon Z4 cup holder from china thread on here and purchased one. Took ages to come from China so when it did it was a nice surprise. It came with the actual unit and the cover.

Started by prising the blanking cover off

Popped the 2 screws out

Pull the vent out

Marry the cup holder to the vent- it sits on runners and clips into place from the back. Small screw from the eternal screw pot in the garage to secure it

Refit the vent and screw back in. Pop the new facia plate in place.

Enjoy- I know I will relish no more burnt inner thighs from spilt Mc's coffee!

Great how to ! Thanks. I also got these from Amazon. Arrived in a couple of weeks. I've fitted the drivers side but the cup holder interferes with the air vent mechanism and it locks in the open position.....thoughts ?

I got a pair of these too. Fitted perfectly, no issues.
Are you sure it's slotted on correctly?
Is the fixing screw too long and fouling the vent?

Sell me your blanking plate?
I have a mat machinemonkey cupjolder ftw.
Who me?
Left, right or both?

arrg. just remembered i ordered a cheap cupholder from aliexpress.
been so long coming i had forgotten about it.

Turns out it was fouling on part of the moulding of the cup holder. A touch with a file and all is well. Passenger side fitted perfectly in less than 5 minutes start to finish. Picture shows the same moulding on the passenger side cup holder.

Hi pal, where did you get the screw/washer to fix the cupholder to the air vent unit?

in my magic pot of screws that became surplus to requirements

I believe some call it the 'oh sh1t tin'

Haha fair enough. Luckily i have something that fits, was just wondering if I should have expected it with the cupholder! The cover is also a separate part from BMW right?

I think the cover came with both mine I bought?

Any screw will do that fits!
The Amazon ones I got (same as Stuart's) did come with the front plate, but I believe BMW will want more of your pennies and you need to order separately.

I got them from BMW last week, got similar fitted as originals in my other BM, and they are OK, so didnt wanna risk any lesser quality... another 1 mile trip to the dealer it is..

Fair enough, but you'd be hard put to find any difference from what I've seen of both sorts now.

Thanks for making me feel better parting with 90+ quid for the privilege of drinking coffee in a Z...

I fitted these they are pretty good, although the roads are quite bumpy round me so some coffee always ends up on the floor mats - either that or my suspensions is even more ruined than I first thought...

Thanks for this. Am planning to rid myself of the cupholder and install blanking plate with usb charger (far more useful than smashing a flimsy cupholder full of boiling liquid onto oneself :D )
