CTEK charger

Here's a couple of pics of mine connected under bonnet. Bought an extension cable & that allows me to shut the bonnet. Had the CTEK for about 4 years now, SORN'd her for 4 months last winter & started first time early March

Charger is on and the car is back in the garage all tucked up. Thanks for all who messaged. The connections under the bonnet we’re the ones to go for.

Can anything bad come from leaving the charger on for too long a period ?

Hi, I don’t think so as intelligent chargers wont cook a battery & turn off/down as required

+1  . Exactly as Smartbear says. These chargers are designed to be left on long term. They condition the battery to keep it in top working order.

Am gobsmacked some say you’re not supposed to connect direct to the battery... as both my CTEK’s came with hardwire battery connector terminals.

Similarly you can add a Volvo XC60 & a Mini to the list that don’t blow up if u do.

Rather confused by this.
I am going to purchase a CTEK charger/conditioner shortly as the Alpina will be SORNed at the end of this month. I would prefer it (and more convenient) to connect directly to the battery terminals. Is it ok to do this or not? Some advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Nothing difficult about it really - if your car has IBS then charging directly on the battery can confuse the system in terms of correctly reporting state of charge, but it will probably sort itself out after a few drive cycles. No IBS = no such worries.

E85/E86 has no IBS
E89 has IBS.

I’m glad my //M doesn’t have irritable bowel syndrome

Thanks for clearing that up. I’m guessing the Alpina doesn’t have IBS :? then and that only applies to E89’s.

To go against the grain I have my ctek MX5s 5.0 with a comfort connect lead hard wired to the battery terminals. Works fine for me 😁👍

As do I on 3 cars at present, buy the lead you fit to the car with the 3 status led’s in to tell you the state of charge.
