CSL's + B12s Will a 235/40/19s rub?

Hi,

Couple of years back I had the B12 kit fitted, essentially Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs. This dropped the front 10mm and 20mm on the back and in my opinion ruined the ride on poorly surfaced roads. Perfect ride and handling on good roads, problem is I live in Surrey and all the country lanes around me are shocking.

The car is currently running 235/35/19's and 265/30/19's on 19" CSL's. My front tires now need to be replaced as they have started cracking. I would like to try and fit 234/40/19's on the front in an effort to try and make the ride slightly better for the s**t roads around me.

Has anyone fitted 235/40/19s with the B12s or other mildly lowered setups? Thx

Will give you exact dimensions to measure the arch gap, tyre width etc and also speedo accuracy offset %

They rubbed for me a lot (CSLs and slightly lowered) and in several places.

The worst thing was that the brake ducts rubbed and amplified the horrible scraping noise like trumpets. Helluva way to make an entrance if you enjoy the attention.

245/35 work ok but can rub a bit. 265/35 on the rear makes the biggest difference, comfort-wise.

My MC came with CSL Reps and and H & R coil-overs fitted with 235/35 x 19s on the front.

No rubbing, well not once I got the H & Rs up to their highest setting and the spacers removed!

I really don't think going up a profile on the fronts will make any difference to the ride quality. I swapped the CSL Reps to 224s and going from 265/30 x 19 to 255/45 x 18 didn't make much difference. :(

I hate to say it but changing suspension may prove much more effective, based on my experience of a 20K mile MC on OE suspension last year.

Hi SMEG, you still have your OEM front springs?

I used to have the same experience with the B12 Billy kit + CSL’s

Was recommended to just take out the front Eibachs & revert back to OEM springs…. u keep the rest.

Totally transforms the ride for our roads.

I’m in Sussex, PM me if want to chat further on this by phone 👍

I remember you telling me that, and I've met another M owner who did exactly the same because it made the car so much better.

Far cheaper than getting new boots & worrying about rubbing IMO

B12s are great if you like horrible ride quality, else as others said go back to stock springs but keep the shocks.

The rear Eibach’s in the B12 kit are not as stiff as OEM so car scuttle’s slightly less on uneven surfaces

Hi Jembo, still running the awful B12 kit and was surfing the web for suspension ideas. Had just priced up front and rear OEM springs when I revisited this thread. Glad I did as it's very interesting you say just to refit the standard fronts!

Will PM you in the next couple of days. Will the car not look rather jacked at the front? Don't have the old springs but 2 new front springs are £327 and £289 for the rear @Sytner dealer.

Welcome

How she sits on Billy all round + rear Eibach + front OEM FYI

Check your PM as know someone with a spare set of OEM ///M front springs

Interesting idea doing just the fronts. Was going to revert back to all 4 oem springs on b12s when the Z comes out of winter hibernation in April but might just do the fronts then. Was worried about the oem rears as they tend to snap but this idea solves that one.

U won’t regret it unless you’re tracking the car

Don’t need spring compressors either 👍

Well that was perfect advice, thank you so much. OEM front springs fitted and it rides sooo much better. No more crashing and banging from the front end. Indie who fitted them for me said the Eibachs had no tension when the strut was removed. Like they were the wrong spring for the shock... Which they are. Shouldn't be allowed to sell the B12 as a kit as it just doesn't work on the car unless you're on a track. Anyway happy owner again.

FYI - B12s without the Eibachs are just B6s. For those looking to do suspension upgrades in the future, you can just go B6 with your OE springs without going through these headaches.

Great news 99ron

IMO with the slightly softer Eibach rears are an improvement over OEM for road use

SMEG will be very happy with this news once his is out of hibernation

Nope b12s comprise eibach springs and b8 dampers. The damper specs are the same between b6 and b8 but b8 are designed for lowering springs, b6 are designed for oe springs.
