CSL Wheels quandary - real or not??

Hi,

Some of you might recall a little while back I was pondering over colour choices for a refurb on the CSL wheels on my Z4MC... Well I went for shadow chrome but thats not what this thread is about...

The wheels were sent off by the garage (a local ///M specialist I have used for years and trust) to a wheel refurb company. The first time they came back one rear tyre had a 6" gash in it, and one wheel was badly damaged. The garage also thought that the fronts were not the right wheels. They got refused and a week later they came back with the damaged wheel badly repaired, the garage rejected them again.

Another couple of weeks later and the refurb company have agreed to replace one rear wheel with a new one, so yesterday I went to inspect them. The other rear wheel does not look the same, on closer inspection the spokes are about 2mm thinner and the outer edge is about 3mm thinner than the new wheel. The new wheel looks identical to a real CSL wheel. (The garage has a CSL in at the moment too).

The front wheels.... I just can't put my finger on it, they don't look quite right but I can't say for sure what is different to a real CSL wheel.

The wheels have all the part numbers stamped on the front and the BBS stamp on the back too, even so I just don't believe that they are genuine CSL wheels.

What do you think? I have a horrible suspicion that someone stole my wheels and tried to fob me off with a set of replicas including one that was broken and then replaced on wheel with a real one.

Luckily my garage have been great about this and are chasing the refurb company and have said if it comes to it they will replace with a new set of CSL wheels themselves.... But that just doesn't seem fair to me.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

The wheels were in very good condition with a couple of light scuffs on one wheel only when they went in, just scratched paint so they didn't need any repair work, just a to be re-painted.

I think the weight of the wheels can tell you too, Around about 11KG I think, a google will confirm, good luck

thanks. I found that post also, and its odd as most of those things do seem to match up on the wheels but one of them (one of the rears) just looks different and measuring it shows quite significant differences in things like the thickness of the spokes and the outer rim.

I'm sure at the very least very least that one rear is fake, and just makes me doubt the origin of the fronts too :(

Think I might have heard there are different part numbers for CSL wheels, so they may have 'evolved' slightly over the lifetime of their production.

Also consider if they are CS wheels and not CSLs, do a search to confirm exactly what the differences are, I can't remember off the top of my head

You say 'most' of the things on here are matched on our wheels - my understanding is that ALL of the things have to match for them to be genuine ? :?

You could always ask BMW ?
