CSL Tyre Sizes

Hi,

I've decided to fit CSL's to my new (to me)Z4 M Coupe however due to the number of speed bumps between my home and a main road I'm not intending to lower it! On looking extensively through the forums I see the tyre sizes recommended tend to be 235/35 and 265/30... however on using a tyre diameter calculator (http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html) a 265/35 rear would appear to be much closer to the OEM wheel/tyre diameter..... pretty much at a loss what to go for! Any suggestions?

The 30s look better 35s will give a better ride. But mine is lowered so 30s on the back look sweet. The 35 profile will probably fill your arches better than 30s.

Im running 245/35/19 F and 275/30/19 R on mine with no problems

Is 235/35/19s and 265/30/19s not closer to the original OEM wheels? and recommended by BMW for CSLs?

265/35 is closer size wise. But not very popular it seems.

Can't comment specifically on the tyre sizes for CSL wheels.

However, the car before my E46 3 series (no I'm not telling you what it was, as I am too ashamed ) was lowered approx 80mm front, and 100mm rear.

Only the largest of speed bumps caused any issues. I wouldnt worry too much about clearance, but the advice above on tyre size sounds sensible.

I currently run 265/30/19 on the rear and am moving to either 265/35/19 or 255/35/19, our roads aren't going to get any better!

So the Z4M is renowned for understeer so 245s on the front would be better. 275, 265 or 255!? for the rears? I had convinced myself 235/35/19 and 265/30/19s were the way to go...?

I'm tending toward keeping the size as close to original for gearing purposes (although it may be that the difference doesn't make any material difference) and as Daz points out above our roads (well certainly the ones in Edinburgh) aren't getting any better. I do however appreciate that on a lowered car the 30's at the rear look the dogs dangly bits! :evil:

I'll report back with my final decision and impressions if/when I do it!

You don't need 245's on the front, the car will drive better on our roads with thinner tyres. 235 max and if you have an understeer issue get the camber pins removed alongwith a professional geo set up.

I'm shopping for 2 new fronts at the moment for CSls.

I had almost made up my mind on 235/35/19..... Is this generally a good size to stick with ?

I had also almost decided on Goodyear f1 asymmetries , any thoughts on these tires ? Is there anything better for that price ?

I'm being relieved of £432 for the above pleasure.


Currently my fronts have 225/40/19 conti sports m3 , Stretched to fit . They were on it when I bought the car and offer absolutely rim protection .

I would respectfully disagree and point you towards the engineers who developed the CSL. In my experience you will experience more tramlining on the road but its all personal preference.

The minority on here run 245s.

stock CSL sizes imo... if its good enough for the CSL its good enough for the z4m..... BTW alpina actually ran those identical sizes on the roadster S again from the factory...... the car really doesnt need anymore tyre than that imo..... Refine the handling with a good alignment setup, bmw set this car up to be very safe, shortwheel base plus lots of power = lots of problems...... you can really dial out the under-steer and be left with a different handling car.
