CSL Tyre Size Options

Hello All,

I have managed to pick up a set of CSL wheels and whilst they are at the refurbishers, I need to get hold of some tyres.

I am looking at the standard sizes with either Falken FK452's or Goodyear Eagle F1´s Asymmetrics.

The standard sizes that I was going to go for were 235/35 and 265/30 and when I actually did have a CSL, you could almost get away with 275's on the back.

I want a bit of extra grip, potential extra rim protection and some extra girth to fill out the arches.

So what sizes have you guys gone for?

I'd definitely recommend the stock CSL sizes you've listed above. I've tried 275/30's on the rear combined with both 245/35 & 235/35 on the front. The car felt very twitchy and unstable at speed with the 275's on and I switched to the 265/30/19 which feel just right for the car especially when combined with 235/35 fronts. To be fair the 245/35 felt good on the front as well but I prefer the 235's.

I'm running Michelin PS2's and also a set of Cups in stock CSL sizes which give good rim protection. I've not tried the Falken FK452's on my car but I've put them on my wife's A3 and found them to be a good tyre but be aware they offer zero rim protection. I've only heard good things about the F1's but haven't experienced them.

Just to complicate matters if you're going to go with the Falkens I would suggest the 275 option. It seems the Falkens run a little narrower than most other tyres and I went orginally for 235 front and 265 rears, but in my opinion the sidewall was too stretched and also offered no rim protection at all. I changed them straight away to 275 and the sidewall is a lot better and more comparable with 265 of other brands. I did quite a lot of investigation into this as it does only seem to be on the Falkens, so if you choose another brand, such as the PS2, keep with the 265s.

Vreds with stock CSL sizes. The car tended to wash out into understeer initially, but I think that was the chemicals at the surface layer of the tyre as it's settled down now.

245/275 was a mistake for me, running Vred's in 235/265 and the ride / drive is transformed. Much closer to the 18" feel

Ok took Incitatus' advice and went with 235 and 275 but in falkens. Let's see.

But seriously I really didn't like the 265 Falkens, and I'm much happier with the 275s. Of course if you change to another brand then change back to 265s!

I'm on ps2 235fr 265r. Perfect and can more the handle the 450bhp my car puts out. 275s are overkill IMO, if the stripped out racer csl has the former sizes then their more than enough for a z4m. Sometimes less is more ;-)

Yeah but the problem is with the Falkens less really is less and therfore more is actually the same.... However if you're running the PS2s then less really is less and more really is more. Um... :rofl:

Here's a pic of the 265s, absolutely no rim protection and the sidewall looks too stretched (IMHO)

Thiers no rim protection I agree but those tyres are not stretched at all. Love the colour of ur MR. My ps2s have a bulky sidewall, but they aren't far off ur pic really. Each to their own really.
