This is a repost, from elsewhere, to gauge interest.

Since chucking on my CSL karbonius intake on the zed, I've had a good look at the one i bought previously from ebay, it is actually a quality item also, produced in hong kong, the carbon is pretty nicely layer up and the finish is top notch.. the trumpets ae also very nicely done, and actually look identical to the karbonius ones..

the only catch, it doesn't have an internal CSL type air filter.

I've had a pretty good look at the box, and i am going to be cutting it open to make a seat inside for the CSL air filter. Ive worked with fiberglass lots before from making surfboards and such and id recon this should be pretty do-able..

including most of the hardware minus the tune, id recon this CSL type box will come in at under a grand US..

would there be any interest here for me producing kits like that?

Cheers..

Sounds interesting. Maybe down the line and if final product is sufficiently polished.

As a side note how about an eventuri inverted cone stuck on the end of this? Basically use this as just an intake manifold? Stupid idea?

Two months ago before buying my Eventuri I would have been a definite yes. I am still interested though as I'd love a bit more volume, so put me down as a maybe. :)

I've liked the idea of a CSL intake for a while but obviously the real thing is expensive.

How would this compare to the other CSL style intakes? Is there a list of comparisons of the existing options somewhere?

A real one is about 4.5k if you can find one.
Evolve version similar sort of quality as oem for about £2.5k I think.

GSR version around £1200 does exactly the same thing just the carbon is a wet layup and a little rough looking, but they make race car parts so to be expected. It also doesn't use an OEM filter, it's slightly different. The other boxes use prepreg carbon as far as I know and use the OEM filter.

Karbonius seem newish on the scene and do a very nice looking one for about £1500 I think, lots of good reports of these I hear.

Mine is a goeke version but I'm not sure you can buy any more.

You'll then need someone who will do an alpha-n tune on our cars in this country. Not as easy as that might sound. Reports are to avoid the evolve map (sixspeed I think had this), I have no issues with mine done at a tuner in southampton. Budget around £700 for that.

Thanks, very useful to know. That Karbonius one looks nice and more inline with what I was thinking price wise.
It's still some time away for me though. Maybe next year I'll go for a cam upgrade and airbox upgrade along with a tune. I'll have to see who can do that work in Sweden though...

No problem. Yes the karbonius does look good, if I was to do it again I'd probably go for that. Having said that the GSR box is great (I used to have one on my last car), I don't really spend much time with the bonnet open so to me it doesn't really matter what it looks like as long as it makes THE noise and performs well which it did.
If you want a price for the karbonius get in touch with Martin at raceparts.biz as I think he imports them.

Karbonious box is (1600 Euros) minus the snorkel, which is another 430 euro so including the BMC filter, your looking at 2.5KUS plus shipping, and that with a 6 to 9 month waiting period. plus parts to make this box fit in your car, (around 300 US) and plus tune (around 1kUS Epic) so with shipping, your looking at 4K US minim. :tumbleweed:

oh and then VAT on top of that..

Looking at the link i posted up, there is no way i am gonna do this to save a measly 500Euros.. not for production anyways, so thanks for the input guys. consider this thread closed. Boy, cant believe how cheap those Karbonious boxes are now.. grab yourself one while the going is good. :D
