Csl reps suggestions on z4 coupe

Hi all,

Looking for some new wheels for my z4 coupe e86, looking for csl style but 18inch instead of the 19inch

I've found
18″ Strom STR2 Alloy Wheels – Quartz Silver
On cm wheels which people seem to say is a good place to buy, but just wondering if these fit on the z4 coupe as it doesn't say specifically and the offset will push the wheels out quite alot, if anyone has put them on or knows if they fit well without rubbing please let me know. Also if you have some other suggestions on some good 18inch csl reps that are good please let me know aswell.

Thanks

CM Wheels have been on the go for a while now. They have a good name.

I had a look and they look nice wheels. Normally 18" CSL wheels don't look that good.

He doesn't list the Z4 as suitable. He does have the Z4M and M3.

The widths offsets are Front – 18 x 8.5 ET20
Rear – 18 x 10 ET20

Someone else will be able to advise if they would for.

These are the 18s, assuming its a 3.0si. Plenty of images of what they look like if you do a search - as ive done it alot myself

Why specifically 18"? On my old SI, I put the 19" CSL reps on from bmautosport. There was no diffdrence in ride quality.

On the M I have also installed 19" CSL, to replace the OEM 18". Again, no difference in ride.

?!?!?!? Really? Do you live in the one bit of the UK with perfect roads?

[Not CSLs] I am currently running 18s, and they are noticeably less harsh than my 19s were. I am pretty sure I'm going to go back to 19s long term, but if comfort was the main factor it would have to be 18s.

I also switched to 18 " CSL reps on my E86 and frankly, it's the right compromise look / comfort.
The Strom STR2 should pass, but check the specs carefully: one AND around 35-40 at the front and 40-45 at the back remains safe without rubbing.
If the ET is too low, you may protrude a little from the wings, especially if you are lowered.
Also look at the side of the Apex ARC-8 or the M359 reps, good fitment and super quality.
Keep us posted if you ride them !

I'm really struggling with the first world E86 problems of "do I want to run different tyres on the Z4 winter and summer?" and "what wheels do I really like?"

I think I'm going to swap tyres (and wheels, obvs) and 18s definitely make sense for the winter when the pot-holes are harder to spot. I've got a newly refurbed set of MV2s (never been fitted) but I've kinda gone off them. E9* wheels seem to sit nicely on the E86 and I'm thinking Style 189, 203 or 193 for winter.

For summer I might go 19s, and if I do CSL reps are up there as a possible, subject to the fact that they are a bit of an obvious choice (cos they look so good).

But if I go 18s for the summer I'm even more unsure, as I think CSLs look a little disappointing in 18s... anyone running 18s CSL reps on a coupe near(ish) Guildford for me to come look in person?

My jobs for the summer include sticking my 189s on the Coupe to see how they look in person, and to stick my veeman FS-34s on the 330 just to see! And stick the veeman FS-34s back on the coupe to try to make a final decision on whether I want to sacrifice comfort for looks over the summer (or whether the 19s are not as harsh compared to 18s to what I thought when I first stuck 18s on).

Sorry for the re bump.....

Have you looked at Driftworks.com have some nice wheels.

They have 6performance DTM style rim

Also Strom STR2 CSL style rims

I'm looking at buying an E86 soon, and I really love the CSL look.

I'm still getting my head around what works, regarding offsets, steering weight feel, response etc.

Rears will be fine with lots of options, but fronts are only available in 8.5 and above.

Im running 18" Avus AC-MB4 CSL reps, similar to the Rivas but the rears are 9 inch wide so extra dish. Here is my car on eibachs and bilstein b4.

Hi all
Sorry for thread resurrection.

I’ll soon be the proud owner of a Z4MR (e85) & will be looking to swap the standard 18’s to something that represents csl’s at some point soon.

I too am thinking of staying 18” based on look and ride but happy to hear (& see pics) from owners with 19’s for comparisons.

Also, best places to buy..

I’ve found this image online and really liked the look… these look 18’s to me..

Thanks in advance
Adam

I've had my M for around 10 years now and I've run 19" CSL's pretty much the whole time. I've recently replaced them with Strom 19's for a slightly different look as the CSL's cracked and they do look good....
But, whenever I put my 18" track wheels on, I actually think the car looks much better. The bigger sidewalls and smaller wheels I think suits the car better and if I had the money I'd buy some Apex 18's for my everyday wheel, probably will do that in the future tbh!
(Those wheel's in the pic above are Apex 18's I believe (Arc-8?), kinda proves my point and agree!).

Hi Andy
That’s great..
That’s my thinking re looks too.

Any recommendations on where to look for Apex’s…. ?

Found these..

Are these them ?
Adam

I would go on Apex's website which is very good and gives you all the different offset options for the car as well. Believe they are also pretty helpful via. email if you need help: Apex

They will ship to UK I believe but there are plenty of UK resellers, sure someone else can help you with a good one if you prefer that option as I've not actually had to look into that side of it.

Arc-8's are their CSL style rep and look excellent in my opinion but they have other options. Expensive, but your getting a very good and well made wheel IMO unlike most rep's which are on the cheaper end (including the Stroms I have).

My personal choice would be 18x9 on the front 18x10 on the back for a nice aggressive look. Might be worth asking them what camber you need to run to make sure don't rub though as obviously wider than standard.

Brilliant, thanks again Andy.
Most certainly like the look of the Apex 18’s.

Yep a bit more expensive than some ive seen but would rather go on recommendations and pay a bit more for a quality wheel.

If anyone knows of any good uk retailers, or places that sell them with a tyre deal, please shout !!

Yes those are the ones, I think Hack and a few others sell them too.
I'd be a little wary of going wider than 8.5f 9.5r as even with quite a lot of camber my arch liners near the front lights have left the chat!
I've had a couple of sets, great wheels, strong & light.
These are the offsets you want for an M
2.00 APEX 18x8.5 ARC-8 ET38
2.00 18x9.5 APEX ARC-8 ET22

I was looking at both 6Performance DTM 18x10 ET20 and Ström STR2 18x10 ET20.
Both look identical. Are they somehow related or just make exactly the same mold?

I'm not sure myself, the ET's are the same so maybe the Strom's are made from a slightly better quality material?

I could be wrong, but when I looked at them, the 18 x 8.5j ET20 was too wide for the front of my car. OEM is 18 x 8j ET47 = 27mm further away from the strut, plus half of the extra half inch rim width = 27mm+ 6/7mm ish = 33/34mm.

The 19's would fit better? 19 x 8.5j ET35 = 12mm + 6/7mm ish = 18/19mm.
