CSL 19" Wheels

Hello All

I have been wanting to get a set since before I got my Zed. I would prefer OEM but am struggling to justify the extra cost against the replica price.

I know the OEM may be slightly lighter and definitely stronger but I don't think there is enough of a difference. Does anyone else have opinions on this?

I have another question in that I can maybe get a set of OEM wheels for a half decent price but how can I tell if they are original? The seller thinks they are but doesn't really know. Any tell tale markings inside etc?

Thanks in advance.

The OEM ones do generally look better, it's usually subtle but there are differences.
Look for the BBS stamp on the back of one of the spokes and BMW embossed on the front around the center. There's plenty of threads showing this. There's a genuine set for sale on these forums, not cheap but with virtually new Michelin PSS, they're a lovely set.
On a black coupe, CSLs look awesome ;)

The price thing is up to you but think of it as money banked. You will loose money on reps, no doubt, but buy OEM second hand and you are likely to get your money back when you come to sell them. Depending on condition of course, so you might want to factor in the cost of a good quality refurb.

Thanks.

The bmw text on the front around the centre. Does it go all the way around on the OEM? I have seen some like this. Most others (reps I think have little or no cast text here)

I think I would have to get a good deal on the OEM as I wouldn't spend £2k. :o

That would make it more of a choice Beedub but all the genuine ones advertised all seem to want near the 2k mark.

No rush anyway. I can wait for the right deal.

Think they look great on the 19" CSLs but I do like the comfort that the OEM 18" wheel offers...must be getting old!

The rims themselves shouldn't run more than £1250-1500 depending on condition. With tyres run more, depending on what they are.

I had 224s and CSLs and the 224s had MPS2s and the other Vred Ultrac Sessantas and I didn't see a huge difference in comfort but mine was lowered so was pretty spine shaking anyway.

Thanks Tom. My plan is put some winter rubber on the 224 and then Summer rubber on the CSL and rotate like that. The Zeds winter and Summer wardrobe! :D

I am really happy with the ride on the 18's and it is a worry but I really want CSL and the 19's do look better than CSL 18's. If it becomes too much form over function then I will be able to trade on.

Probably should wait for the 224s to wear out first! For now they are safe and sound here

Lovely

It's going to take some serious will power to wait until your old rubber needs replaced :D

When you get them on post some more piccys, that'll be next week

used CSL with decent tyres shouldnt be anywhere near 2k, 1350 MAX imo

Interesting Byron, mine are more than that but they're not what I'd call used, both wheels and tyres have done less than 500 miles, haven't kept count but more like 300, so as new, I think 25% off of list is pretty good considering, however I know that mine will only be of interest to someone who was considering brand new and totally unmarked as opposed to second hand properly used, I may still have them next year, no great shakes really

As I said on another post, used sets are possible 12 year old wheels now for more than a grand....not for me! Unless I could see proper proof of purchase I'd save and buy new for £1800...

Darren's wheels are only 12 months old and I know he has the receipts too and I know which BMW dealer he bought them from. They have literally done less than 500 miles.

I understand that and would be perfect but Darren wants £2250 for his which is a valid price point if at the top end but is where I started.

The difference between those and the reps with the same tyres is a grand.

No rush though. I can torture myself for ages yet!!! :D

Haha it'll be like water boarding !

If you fancy a PM chat we'll have one :-)

I've been tempted by yours Darren, but I could roll them down the road and they'd go further and faster than my car in its current condition :(
