Re: Retrofit Cruise Control

Hi all,

Sorry to put this in two different parts of the forum, but I have to try everything, eh?!

Has anybody actually done this mod on a post 04 model?

I have an 06 model, and have carried out everything up to the point in the PDF BMW document where I plug the wire into pin 39 of the plug X60191. The sketch of the engine bay looks nothing like mine, the siemens aluminium thingy (I am more used to working on older engines, and have no idea what it is!) seems to be mounted differently, with the plugs facing the front of the car rather than the sky. Also there seem to be about 300 wires coming out of it.

There is no clear marking that I can see to differentiate the plug "X60191" from the rest, any chance someone could stick a photo in so I can finish the mod?

Steve

The PDF from BMW is shite, I would put a fiver down that your trying to connect the wire to the wrong point.

The black box you want is the one on the front of the one your in.

I will try and find the pics I have that make it clear.

I did mine (2005 2.0l). Same issue, we took an educated guess in the end and luckly it worked! If you like I can take a photo of mine to show you were it goes.

Actually seeing seanodwyers post made me think, what model and year are you putting CC into as my post is for post facelift (N52 engine) where as many have fitted post 04 but pre facelift where there have been no issues.

Thanks for the reply guys,

Shrutch, mine is an '06 with the M54 2.5i. I will have a look when I get home to see if the pin is free, but you were right, completely in the wrong box!

Seanodwyer, thanks for the offer, I'll let you know when I get a look at it!

Plenty have done this then as it's the same as the 3.0. Don't recall them having any issues with the wiring though.

My link is for the n52 engine so I can't confirm where you need to connect into.

Ha!

Excellent, I followed your photos and it works!

Now have fully functional Cruise Control :D

Now for a long trip to test it out...

Cheers gentlemen

Once you wired it all up did you not have to have it activated by a dealer, its on my need to do list wireing up the CC on a 05 2.2

Thats all I did, plug and play!

The plug looked slightly different from the photo in the link, mine had less wires in it, but I just put the pin in the right hole, put it all back together and it worked a treat!

PDF instructions say coding required but nobody has ever needed it, same as retrofitting SatNav

:D Looking good now, all mods complete (for now)....

Thanks for the info i best get on with it

why is there no cruise control light on the dash board, never known any vehicles that don't show it

I've had a 3 series E46 and a mini cooper s that both had CC, neither had a light on the dash, perhaps it's a "BMW drivers can remember they switched it on" thing?

Steve

I have seen on E92,when you activate CC,it shows on the display what speed you have set,and a little dial comes up next to the speed set!

Well done op  Something i have been meaning to do for far too long!

Looking at your pic though i would say you have a facelift.. so the N52 engine!
