Cruise Control Stalk from China?

Has anyone bought a cruise control stalk via Ali Express (China)?

I’ve been keeping an eye on eBay but clocked this one - just wondered if anyone else had taken the plunge and if it worked OK? For the price I’m considering giving it a go (currently about £31 delivered with tax included)

I'd buy half a dozen! You'll make a killing over here. :wink:
 
It’s only a switch at the end of the day. Genuine ones are expensive because they are no longer being made.

Well it is just a switch but there's also the microchip inside to convert the signals down a single wire which is the difficult bit.

I have ordered one to test :thumbsup:

Just in the process trying to do this o my E88 -125i convertible
Got general advise about what 's required and how to fit from here

Parts from ebay cost just under £60.. Cant see a £20 stalk bee able to do this but who knows, sure plenty of members would be interestd to find out, Also be interested to here from mebers who are experienced in fitting crise.
 
I'm sure plenty of people on here would love to know if it works now that they are so expensive from BMW.

Your car needs a bit more than just adding a stalk I’m afraid.

I am quite confident but not 100% but I believe that the youtube video is by a member on these boards called [ref]AnubisZed[/ref]

He works mostly with the E89 but as the E88 is the same generation then what he knows will likely apply to your E88.

The hardest part for someone to copy and make these is finding the microchip. The chip has a load of numbers on it and I am sure they mean something to somebody and is probably easy to find for people who build and make circuit boards. I am quite confident that BMW hasn't made their own microchips and probably used generic off the parts from Taiwan.

The rest of the stalk is relatively easy to copy as its simple moving parts.

I was in process of making up a custom cruise stalk from other bmw parts. I did all the research back in January this year and on paper it will work but just needed testing to make sure. I just haven't really had time to revisit the project since then!

Hopefully the Chinese have saved me the bother :D

Yes E88 convertible appear to be identical to E89- lots of cruise control squibs on ebay from 1 series and 3 series but only 2 that had auto wipers and no rear window wipe function. mine from a E87 (coupe)
 
I received the cruise control stalk from Aliexpress. It was actually a genuine used stalk. Will be testing to see if it works this weekend.

I will also be testing my prototype cruise stalk this weekend aswell hopefully.

Thanks for the update, I think I’ll get one ordered too as a genuine used stalk for this money is pretty good!
 
Three used ones appeared on eBay yesterday for £200 each. I wonder if that is a coincidence.
