Cruise Control Retrofit

Hi everyone,

Any idea if Cruise Control can be retrofitted to the E89? I fitted it to my old E85 and that was simple but I don't know if it's possible with the E89.

I don't mind getting BMW to do it, but I'm not even sure if it's possible. I asked the guy at the BMW dealership that I bought the car from and he said he doesn't know. He's apparently checking but I haven't heard anything. Just wondered if anyone here knows?

Before I bought my E89 I looked into this. The parts list looks bigger and MUCH more pricey than with the E86. So much so, I decided to but my E89 with it already specced.

The Cruise would definetly need to be coded by a dealer too, its much more integrated into the display/speedo/check control. (not to mention the brakes).

Anything can be done with the right amount of will, but i'd suggest finding one that already has it.

It really is excellent though, and i'm glad I made the effort. Ditto the sat nav. A different league than both features in the E86.

It's got the sat nav which is great, but it doesn't have cruise control. I might have to get used to living without it in that case!

Don't let me put you off doing a bit more research re the cruise. - you might be plesantly suprised. It's just that it looks much more than the retrofit on the E86.

Look at Realoem, there is a (big) complete unit that fits around the steering column. - Therefore steering wheel and airbag off etc.

The cruise control does work the brakes, so I assume it's not as simple as plug and play.

I'm just finishing a retrofit of the loudspeaker system (door tweeters plus the main speaker and tweeter in the rear bulkhead. - if successful I will post a how-to). - or maybe you already have this?

I'm guessing it will be possible, but as said at a higher cost. The 1 Series needs a new slip ring on the steering column that has the CC stalk and coding, guessing the E89 will be very similar.

I asked the dealership about it a week or 2 after buying mine. They basically said they don't think it can be done, but there is a chance it'll get 'added to the system at a later date', and if so then expect to pay £500-600.

If you have any luck post back on here, I really want cruise control !

Just got off the phone to BMW. Unfortunately it's a no. Cruise control can't be retrofitted. I'll just have to watch my speed from now on :?
