Cruise control retrofit (post 10/04) - help!

Well, I've done the install on my 57 Coupe and checked everything was connected ok before reconnecting the battery and taking it out to test it.
Sadly the switch does absolutely nothing, so I'm left wondering whether I've not connected something properly or whether it really does need coding. I know several people have fitted it successfully without coding, but I'm wondering whether it may be down to the individual car?
Here's a couple of shots where I connected it to the DME, just in case anyone spots anything:

It's the blue wire I've added, 6th from the left. It does look as though it's a bit loose so not sure if that's the problem but it wouldn't go any tighter.

But the question is whether you want to trust a how to guide from a man who has fitted cruise control but it doesn't work, and not only that but has screwed up his DME as well!
Seriously though, I got on fine with everything up until this point, and as long as you're ultra careful when connecting to the DME then you should be fine.
That said, I thought I'd do it myself to save a bit of cash and have some self-satisfaction as well. What I've actually ended up with is a problem that will cost more to resolve than getting the CC properly fitted in the first place and a bit stress into the bargain!

) and have been taking a look at this thread and the pdf instructions as to how to fit it to a post facelift car. It looks possible but having read this thread, my gut feeling is that I ought to get a dealer to fit it, but I got quoted 2 hours @£115 + VAT per hour.... so has anybody actually successfully installed the kit themselves on a post facelift Z4? Is it worth a go or should I just bite the bullet?
I've tried ringing the two BMW 'specialist' garages I know of in the area, the first hasn't got back to me and the second didn't pick up. I'll try them again but I'm not sure whether I should get an indy to do it? Any advice would be great.

Hmm, difficult to say - I still haven't got mine working, but I haven't had another go at it since September.
I wish I had got someone else to do it, but that said not prepared to pay £330 + VAT! A couple of members have had success though...

If you don't have the harness in place (which you should), then you can just buy that bit too, but it certainly can be retro'd.
To check if you have the harness in place will take you less than 5 minutes to find out.
Grab a posidrive screwdriver, and just perform step 1 of my HowTo.
If you then look at the circled wire in step 2's picture - this is the end of the cruise control harness.
If you HAVE that connector, then you just need to buy the switch and follow the rest of my guide.
If you DONT have that connector, then you'll need to purchase that also. the PDF manual that's attached to my HowTo gives the part number and installation instructions for that cable...
once it's installed, you can then follow the rest of my guide.
